  1. It doesn't matter for your acceptance, but you may want to try and visit in order to make a more informed decision. Can you make it another day? See if they would be willing to set something up for you.
  2. Oh also, I finally emailed to check on my status at UT-Austin. Rejected! To the person who asked about my wait list status on the results page, I emailed them to check.
  3. Glad to hear it, thanks! Congrats btw.
  4. I am wait-listed at UC-San Diego, from the email it sounds like I am very close to getting an offer If you are planning on not attending, let me know.
  5. I was accepted to the MA program in Sociology at UVic via email this evening. 2/2 for Canadian schools thus far, still leaning towards Oregon but an acceptance at Toronto would give me something serious to think about.
  6. Accepted to the MA program at the University of Victoria.

So who here is planning to attend U of O in the fall? I still have 8 schools to hear back from but Oregon has made me a very competitive offer and I am leaning towards accepting at this point. Any idea if April/May is too late to apply for graduate housing?
  8. @TheStage There is more to class status than just net worth. Only a small percentage of the population can count themselves as part of the highly educated, which includes significant political capital that is a form of class status in and of itself.
  9. I was accepted the MA program in Sociology at Simon Fraser last week. Still waiting on Toronto and Victoria.
  10. Me too. Damn ETS list serv.
  11. I agree. I would not even consider an offer that doesn't include a tuition waver and some semblance of a monthly stipend.
  12. Are you talking about Oregon or schools in general? Some schools publish the info on their webpages, some don't. Info on Oregon is found here: http://sociology.uoregon.edu/graduate/phdlisting.php
  13. Yeah it feels good. I also looked at their placement record for the last 10 years and it looks like they place a pretty high percentage of students into tenure track jobs. Many of those are at small state schools but I have no problem with that. I just don't want to get stuck in the adjunct or visiting professor trap.
  14. Usually towards the end of February.
  15. Oregon just offered me an extra 7k fellowship for the first year, and said John Bellamy-Foster has asked to be my adviser. The best part? I didn't ask for it, they just offered it to me. Today is a good day!
  16. With acceptance rates in the 3-8% range (8% being unusually high) I could never imagine only applying to two programs.
  17. Propose helping them with their research over the summer (for free even).
  18. Haha, this was an amusing exchange. And yes the prior information is correct, both programs are one and the same at the graduate level.
  19. I had the same question!
  20. Yes sorry, I lag, replying now.
  21. I'm in the same boat. I'm stoked at the opportunity to go to Oregon, but I am still hoping for good news from my top choice (Dev. Soc at Cornell), or possibly Toronto.

I live in Makiki and pay $1350 a month for a decent 1 bedroom that includes a small study room, large lanai and dedicated parking spot in a gated garage. Makiki is your best bet IMO, it takes me about 15 mins to get to campus on the bus, walking takes about 30 mins.
