  1. Thanks for the info! I didn't get a short list email, but my POI did also email me a very thoughtful CFP (very specific to my topic) after telling me the committee was still deliberating, so I'll just assume I'm hanging out somewhere in purgatory or that this POI is just super nice and thoughtful even to students the program isn't taking. THIS PROCESS
  2. Has CUNY made offers? I thought they just sent out an email about interest and requesting some phone chats? A POI I met with in the fall just told me they were deliberating, which is why I'm asking.
  3. YES! Congrats, faulty! You deserve this more than pretty much everyone.
  4. Nah, I don't want to draw attention to what I see as a massive fuck up. My second interview (with a POI) for the same program went immensely well, so it is out of my hands now. The bad interviewer actually was the only person I have talked with who responded to my thank you (and it was relatively friendly I guess, or neutral), so who knows!
  5. In the fall a faculty member at Brown told me the department has a GRE minimum, but would not tell me exactly what it was. I got my official rejection from Brown today, so I am past really caring. The trouble with looking at cumulative scores (requiring 310+, etc.) is that one can easily score above 310 and still have one low score and one high score, for example. I have an embarrassing quant score and a great verbal. I passed the 310 mark, but a committee could definitely throw me out for my quant. I suspect many of us have similar profiles in that regard. Anyone want to report on the Columbia interview? Congratulations!
  6. I had an interview with Rutgers last week. They will be admitting 1-2, so keeping my fingers crossed! Congratulations on CUNY! JHU seems like it's a great fit for you, but getting some love from CUNY is no small feat.
  7. Beware, one must first earn an MA at NSSR and only after the fact reapply for the PhD. It's a pretty brilliant way to just get students to pay for the MA.
  8. Anyone want to claim CUNY result? Was it a mass email or individual?
  9. OY! I am not generally a fan of autoethnography, but if there were ever a time...
  10. Ah, but you had an interview so of course they would send you a nice proper notification! Sorry to hear that -- luckily Michigan is a pretty big feather in your cap. Congrats again!
  11. To the brave poster with the NYU rejection, was your notification solicited? Also, do you guys ever think: what if we are somebody's fieldwork?
  12. As far as I know, CUNY hasn't moved yet officially. Last year I got my rejection from them on 2/10. I was sweating yesterday, that's for sure. Congrats!! Yes!
  13. I can't access my UMass application status page. Anyone else?
  14. Alternating between prepping for an interview and saying "I'm going to barf" to an empty room.

  15. 147 here. All aboard the quantitative struggle bus!
  16. To the person who posted that their MA result was a win for those of us on the "quantitative struggle bus": you are the greatest.
  17. Well, UMass and Boston are likely behind due to about four feet of snow, so probably not going to hear from them in the next few days. Knowing that doesn't keep me from refreshing Spire like 5 times a day, sooooo
  18. I don't believe regular Columbia anthro (not SMS or anthro and education) has a formal interview process, but they often have POIs individually contacting students to chat. I had a rather doom-and-gloom meeting with a POI in the fall (not a lot of hope for medical anthropology at Columbia) and she explained it a little to me. Let's all just keep crossing our fingers!
  19. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused regarding NYU. Despite the appearance of omniscience, I am but a humble researcher and my inside source is on sabbatical. The department is also conducting 2 job searches, so that may explain the early results and multiple faculty meetings. Congratulations to all the admits and people with wait list spots -- you guys are brilliant!
  20. I think it is the first weekend in March. The calendar is on the department site. Good luck!
  21. Unless someone claims the NYU waitlist, I'm inclined to think it is a fake (like the earlier admit posted on the board). The department met for the first time last week and has another meeting on the 19th, probably to finalize the list in time to send invites for visit weekend in March.
  22. Let's all hope good luck is plentiful and catching. I'm burning sage and chanting for real. Your choice of clip is SO spot on. Especially considering this process has me like
  23. Where did you get an offer, SSCCattttttcat (your username is hard to spell)? Congrats! Let's hope we can all keep hearing only the best of news.
