  1. I've been lurking in this thread ever since I was admitted, so time to post now that I've had a couple of classes It's been in the 90s here this week, and I simply can't wear long pants/jeans when it's this hot or I end up really, REALLY cranky. So for my first class yesterday, I wore a sleeveless black top and a knee-length Eddie Bauer skirt that I just found at Goodwill this past weekend. Today I wore a t-shirt that I reconstructed last summer plus a flouncy denim skirt. I figure I fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of dress among the women in my cohort. I'm loving wearing skirts again--the job I left last month really was much too active (and dirty) for skirts.
  2. Just thought I'd update one last time; I finally got the email directing me to the rejection letter on the website this afternoon. So I'm going to be a Buff instead!
  3. Just FYI...still no change here. I'm seeing lots of other Berkeley programs in the results now. I find it very odd that not all the Education decisions (for the same program, even!) went out at the same time. I'm kind of wondering at what point I should just call again edit: Okay, I gave in and called the SCS office again and this time, I just said "I know the Visiting Day already happened, and I still haven't heard anything official, can I just get confirmation that my application was rejected?" To which she answered that yeah, if I didn't get an invite, it pretty much meant I wasn't accepted. I still really want to see that damn status change from "Submitted" to something else, though!!!!
  4. Ha, thanks. I will definitely report in when I finally hear something.
  5. I did call, and Susana Flores said that it would at least be before the end of the month. She also said that the Graduate Division sends them out in batches. Which...doesn't really help!
  6. STILL nothing from Berkeley!!! I'm thinking of calling again this afternoon because I would prefer not to have to wait through the weekend again!!
  7. Mine still says "submitted"! *starts refreshing obsessively again...*
  8. Me too. I called Susana Flores, and she said she was sorry it's taken so long, but that she would find out from the Graduate Division when they're supposed to be posted and email me. From the previous couple posts, I presume she'll just tell me it'll be Friday!!
  9. So...still nothing, eh? Well, looks like I'll be calling Susana Flores again tomorrow.
  10. Okay, I have some more concrete info for SCS. The ed admit office couldn't give out the decision information, so they said to call Susana Flores. She said that today was their deadline to get the admissions stuff to the Graduate Division, and that the decisions will definitely be going out soon. And she said that if I don't hear anything by Wednesday to give her a call. So...there's that. I sincerely figure that at this point I should just plan to be going to Boulder, though.
  11. Still nothing here either. If there isn't an email in my inbox by 9 PDT I'm calling. And I really do not want to hear "they're going out"; I will (politely) be asking for my actual decision.
  12. Nor here. I'm definitely calling tomorrow. And I will get a bit huffy if they tell me it's still coming, as after all I called last Friday and was told it would only be 24-48 hours...
  13. Anybody hear anything from Berkeley yesterday? I didn't.
  14. Thanks for calling them. I really hope to get that email soon; I was obsessively checking and rechecking while I was out of town.
  15. Aaaaarrrrgh!!! It's definitely been more than 24-48 hours and I still have no email from Berkeley and my status hasn't changed on the gradadmit page!!!!!! I've been refreshing and refreshing and refreshing all weekend. A bit dismaying, to say the least.
  16. Grad admissions office said on my app no decision has been made yet and that I could contact the Ed office directly...eesh! Do I want to do that??!?!?! ...edit: yeah, I called, and for SCS PhD, they should have the decisions today (likely even this morning!!!!!!) and will start emailing, though it could take 24-48 hours to get the email.... Can I just fast-forward through today please?!?
  17. I might call Berkeley today--in half an hour when it's 9 their time I've been refreshing my status page all morning.
  18. I've got a recruiting weekend next week, and I plan to take my (as-yet unpurchased) tablet for note-taking during important sessions. (Also an obsessive note-taker here!) Plus, I can load my CV and other documents I need (flight itinerary, email from my student host, etc) on it without shuffling a bunch of papers around all the time.
  19. I'm in the same place as the two of you regarding SCS and Berkeley. Distracting myself with the plans for Boulder's recruitment weekend instead
  20. I was looking in the Results Survey just now and did a search on Berkeley's GSE...looks like they have notified in March over the last couple of years.
  21. I'm working on my Berkeley PHS as well, and definitely need some feedback; I'd be happy to do an exchange with someone. I'm at about 400 words at the moment.
  22. On one SOP of mine, I list just one professor with whom I'd be interested in working and what I think about his work. On the other...so far, zero. I need to go back and reassess the faculty. I think five might be pushing it a little bit, especially if their interests are pretty diverse.
  23. I agree with the above poster; there's not enough information about how your family inspired you to continue, just that they were inspiring because they are successful business people. Although I'm not familiar with your school's requirements, the paragraph about your personal qualities is a little...odd. If it's not part of the requirements for applying, I'd leave that part out. In addition, grammatically speaking, you've got quite a few run-on sentences that could use some commas, at the very least, the second sentence is actually a fragment, and there are some awkward phrasings throughout.
  24. Congratulations I had a program participant with whom I chatted about Ph.D. work...he got his at the age of 55, just a few years ago. It's never too late!
  25. I just started contacting professors this week myself, with responses coming almost immediately. They are complicating the picture immensely with additional suggestions, but it's nice to have options! (Sort of.)
