^ Check out the area just past the hospital off S. Columbia Street. I'm talking Valentine Lane, Old Pittsboro Street, Westwood Drive sort of area. Also, anything off McCauley Street is close both to the med and "normal" campus and is historic. If you have money, Gimghoul Drive. But I mean ... money. You can easily walk to campus in 5-20 minutes from all of these, or take one of CH's many buses if you're lazy like me.

^ Nope! I was under the impression stuff was going out a couple weeks ago, though, so I don't really have all that much hope for an interview invite. Also, someone posted on SDN that the interview weekend is 2/3. So yeah, I'm thinking they're done.

Yeah, I think it varies. At my school, there is a prof who, this year, interviewed five stellar people but got a bad "vibe" from all of them. Late February, he calls up another five and brings them in for an unofficial interview and accepts someone from that group. However, I do think this is an exceptionally rare occurrence. I'm trying not to let myself hope for a situation like that, because I feel it would be a false hope and I don't think I could intentionally set myself up for that kind of disappointment.

You are too kind. I will try my best to question that gremlin at every turn. I fear I've given him too much free chocolate cake lately; it's alll gone to his head (and to his love handles). Sorry to be such a downer as of late. You're absolutely right. I'm going to pull myself up by the bootstraps and keep doing what I'm doing, because I love doing it. Thank you.

Oh, please. "I've only heard back from 1/2/n." At least you know you have an interview somewhere. There are those of us on this forum who haven't heard back from anywhere yet. I'd kill to be able to say I've heard back from at least one POI. So to all those out there like me, looking for a smidgen of hope when it seems there is none left to have: There is hope. It's not over 'till it's over, and every prof sends out emails at different times. Even at my alma mater, which has a definitive interview "send-by" date, I've spoken to two professors on the subject who've mentioned that they plan not to send anything out until a good week after that 'deadline.' Don't feel badly just because it seems everyone else on TGC has an interview but you. You aren't alone. And that doesn't make you any less a stellar applicant for it.

Well... IDK. I suppose if I get in, I'll really splurge (if I can afford it by that point!) and get a nice Saddleback leather bag so I don't look like such a fifteen-year-old lugging by backpack around campus. If I don't get in, I'll buy several bottles of Johnny Walker ...I don't know. I have a mental block about this. I can't think of anything I could possibly want more than to get into a good program and start researching. Let me get back to you.

I'm currently applying to research assistant positions in my field as my Plan B. I feel so much better now that I've already gotten an interview for an RAship at a top place (a day after turning in my app materials!), not only about my grad school prospects but also about the next year in general. Will definitely re-apply if I don't get in this year.

According to SDN someone's gotten a clinical invite from Vandy. Ohgodohgodohgod. This + all the Minnesota calls going out have me extremely anxious. TOP SCHOOLS, DON'T LET ME DOWN!

I don't see any Vandy results up.

I've been told this week and next week is when we will hear back, pretty much. Everyone -- gird your loins.

I love the idea for this thread. I think LLajax would be a great candidate because he/she is obviously highly intelligent, and it shows even though a medium as dense as posting on a typically-neurotic forum. Also, always gives great advice. I think I'd be a good candidate for my schools because I scored really highly on my GREs. Also, I have four years of research experience and I'm more passionate about my field and science in general than anyone I know.
