  1. Ah, thank you for further elucidating your opinion. Your mentor has an interesting point, and one I'll have to think about further before I make a response (though my initial knee-jerk reaction is to agree). There does seem to be an overabundance of "armchair psychologists" tweeting about being "omg so OCD!" and "thank god you broke up with him, he's such a psychopath" with a clear lack of understanding of what those terms even mean. History and political science are not my fields, so thank you for explaining your metaphor more as well. That makes more sense now.
  2. Don't worry about it! It may not be as bad as you thought. I would refrain from sending further (unsolicited) materials. Wait for her to respond and then see. You don't want to be "that annoying person who keeps emailing me trying to redeem an interview that wasn't all THAT bad." 'Course, this is my first time going through this process myself, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
  3. ^ That's not at all the same thing. There is a way to distinguish between non-pathological passive-aggressive behavior (what we could call "state behavior") with something pathological like passive-aggressive personality disorder ("trait behavior"). One exists in certain situations, the other exists in a variety of contexts. No one in my field would ever confuse the two, and it is perfectly acceptable for someone within or without the field of psychology to say they perceive a certain behavior as passive-aggressive and not necessarily be implying pathology. The OP might be incorrect about whether or not her PI displays PA behavior. The fact is, however, that she perceives it as such, which is why it is very important for her to document issues (as you said) and be certain she is not misinterpreting the situation. I see the point you are trying to make. However, in this context it is not relevant. The rest of your first comment, however, is excellent advice. +1
  4. I'd probably go into medicine (M.D.), law enforcement, or creative/fiction writing. I know, all very different.
  5. ^ Yay, congratulations! That's fantastic. Also, a little birdie told me UNC-CH clinical interviews will be going out by the 20th, for inquiring minds.
  6. time cat
  7. Yeah, I still want the FSU person from a while back to claim it! Trying to figure out if interview invites have all been extended already or if it's just been a couple of POIs.
  8. ^ I wish! Unfortunately it just doesn't fit into the budget this year. :/
  9. Yeah, all seems quiet on the Western Eastern front. My adviser said next week and the week after should be the two biggies. I imagine a lot of notifs will go out on Tuesday and Wednesday. Eek!
  10. lol, especially since Yale interview date and the date by which invitations will have been extended are both listed clearly on the department website.
  11. Woo, yet more proof about how I don't have a life outside obsessing over grad admissions! (jk)
  12. 1) Freaking out. 2) Working on my German. 3) Learning Javascript and brushing up on MATLAB. 4) Reading as many books as I can get my hands on. 5) Working on the paper I'm co-authoring with my mentor. 6) Writing my novel. Lather rinse repeat. ...Have I mentioned that I HATE having free time? Hate hate hate it. Hate it on any day, hate it even more when free time just = checking results survey. Orz
  13. Can I second this please?
  14. Aww, that's disappointing to hear. Yale was in my bottom two choices, though, since it wasn't the best of my research matches, so I suppose I'm not too upset about it. It'd just have been nice to have had an interview invite before my first rejection!
  15. ^ Yep, me and my colleague both got the same email. Think it's generic.
  16. Sent 100 pings to the TGC server just to be sure. Tried to get on using my phone. Then I lurked around on SDN, and finally devoted myself to doing something actually productive (studying).
  17. Cornell, because you can't upload a CV and can't save as you go. Harvard, because of length and inability to status check. Vanderbilt, for aesthetic reasons. Brown, because it kept having bugs and telling me I had left required sections unfilled (hint: I hadn't, and it spontaneously resolved itself). I liked Wisconsin's and Minnesota's and Yale's, for the most part.
  18. Oooh you are the first person to realize the connection to Prince Llewellyn! I initially derived the username from the minor Harry Potter dark wizard, but as soon as I read his name in the books I thought immediately of the dog as well. (Which, actually, I thought was an interesting choice in JKR's part when it comes to "who REALLY killed Ariana?" in that 3way duel.... I believe we have our answer!)
  19. Oh, I realize perfectly. (<<cyclops emoticon) I was so hoping someone would catch the ref!
  20. Oh, btw, FSU person who posted in the results survey! Would you mind terribly PMing me with your POI? I'm losing my mind over here. Thanks!
  21. All right, so, Florida State. I called today and the assistant said she thinks most clinical interview invites have gone out by now, but not all of them. However, we only have one pre-interview posted on SDN, and nothing here on TGC. Has anyone else heard at all from FSU? ETA: There's one posted now on TGC! Still not counting it out yet, though.
  22. If not the morphine, I fully expect the sheer number of head CTs they put me through has now given me a superpowered mutation. Hopefully that mutation is getting into any grad school I want.
  23. NI NI NI NI NIIIIIIIIIIIIII
