  1. Why are you acting as if you have already been rejected? Acceptances are still coming through and yours might be one of them. Stay calm. Stay positive.
  2. A hearty congratulations! You must be ecstatic. Care to share more with us? Subfield, stats, background, where else you have applied to? Wishing you continued success!
  3. There's an eerie silence here since confirmation of the OSU decisions...
  4. Why do you suggest limiting LORs to three?
  5. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Thank you! It seems in general, for most schools, notifications come the 2nd or 3rd week of February. I suspect most admits will be released in the window Feb 3 - Feb 21.
  7. Hello! Thanks for sharing this. Unfortunately, someone messed up the file. I hope these are not the kind of people we will meet in doctoral school. Is it possible to upload the file with no edits allowed and/or send the original file to me and others via PM. Thanks so much!
  8. Hello IRToni! Can you share the spreadsheet with us. Please. Thanks
  9. Hello sylar. This is a great post, but please recreate it on the PolSci forum. It will have the best impact and response rate there.
  10. many thanks doobieb for this detailed post. I alwasy try and imagine this, but not knowing the selection process of the AdComm I am unable to imagine too much. Your post I think is a good approximation of how most AdCmms work. Please do share more on the dynamics of the actual in-face committee meetings i.e. after the shortlist has been made and they now meet to select the admitted candidates, how do they really determine who to choose? Thanks again!
  11. I'm surprised Duke is already releasing admission results....it's just Jan 21st!!!
  12. I've been waiting for this good news. I knew it would come! I'm happy for you.
  13. THINK POSITIVELY. You do not get admitted into an institution so early as an impostor. What schools are you applying to? Again, congratulations and stay POSITIVE!
  14. I feel your pain. This almost happened to me, until a week prior to the deadline I realized that the school wanted official transcripts NOW, not just when they accept me. My suggestion: Do not give up!. Write a detailed cover letter explaining yourself - this is an honest oversight and many schools have conflicting policies and worse their status page did not provide you any information. If possible, include a screenshot to prove that the status page online only showed info for GRE, LORs, etc but not transcripts. Have the official transcripts couriered to the school TODAY and indicate this has been done in the cover letter. In the cover letter appeal that they evaluate your application and accept/reject you on the merits of your application and not on the technicalities of official/unofficial transcripts. After all, the official transcripts can be confirmed match exactly the unofficial transcripts you previously sent them. Send the cover letter also by courier (FedEx, DHL, UPS) to the DGS, Chair of AdComm (if you know their name) and the Department Chair. I wish you success! P.S. You said: "I have a crisis that I'm pretty sure won't be resolved positively". This is the wrong attitude. STAY POSITIVE.
  15. Could you share some light on how they will reduce the 400 to 80? GREs? GPAs? SOPs? Undergraduate school? Many thanks for the info.
  16. Please share with us the articles you refer to. I am only aware of the Harvard Gary King article posted earlier in this thread. Thank you.
  17. Please share with us the formulas you refer to. Thank you.
  18. If the size is six and if the application is read by only 1-2 people in the initial stages, then the applicant should be allowed to indicate those 1-2 POIs that should read the application. Your fate should not be decided in that initial stage solely by faculty whose research interests may be totally different from yours.
  19. The article says the admissions committee consists of about six faculty. Six faculty for about 700 applications seems rather small. It means in the initial stages your applications fate is probably dependent on just the 1-2 people who read it before it gets to the stage where the files are read by the entire committee. I am curious as to the current size of the Adcomm. Any insights?
  20. I thought NYU or Harvard was your top choice not Princeton PE...Did it change? Wishing you admission into your top choice!
  21. Hello IRToni, Is Princeton PE your first choice?
  22. Professor BFB, You are different and I will keep on thanking you. Sadly, not all of your colleagues adopt your approach. You are correct, it's a very important question, but sadly not all professors will provide even the one line cursory yes/no response - some won't even say "it's not your concern" - just silence! Its incredibly frustrating. Not only frustrating, some times it even makes you wonder if there is something in your background preventing even a cursory reply - you begin to wonder if silence is code for "don't apply here!".
  23. Many thanks for this. I feel better knowing I am not the only one hitting refresh like a mad man! How's the weather in San Diego?
