cokohlik and oseirus: That test really doesn't measure competence in my opinion. I think that schools should really interview everyone to see if they know their field, I mean it is like a job right? But hey, I am not on the admissions committee! I am just hoping they don't deny me based on the GRE alone but will truly look at what I could offer the school. Good luck to you guys!

I got this response yesterday when I expressed my concerns of maybe not getting into my top choice school because of my low GRE scores. "Wel,l so-so was an idiot and got into Columbia." 1. I do agree, I know this person and she was a doofus. 2. However, she is not in the same field as me so being a doofus may be acceptable in her field. 3. I didn't apply to Columbia. But I see what you are trying to say. 4. She could have had stellar GREs that masked her actual incompetence. As much as I want to believe that whole "holistic" approach that adcoms say they use to review apps. I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be overlooked because of a score on a standardized test and not my accomplishments throughout my career. Sigh.

When I am Googling all I can about my POIs or when I check my status for the umpteenth time at an ungodly hour. I have a moment where I say to myself. "So this is what is like to be a stalker" And apparently, I am pretty good at it. Which scares me!

Nope, I applied to NYU. According to the results board, notifications were late February/early March.

I did my FAFSA last night. NYU outsources the form and I had to pay $25 to do it. Not happy about that. I am also submitting my HGSE one today.

I am American, this is the form for graduate students for Steinhardt and the deadline was Feb.1.

And another thing (still mad) why am I going through this whole form process if they give PhDs a fully funded package anyways? hmpf. Okay maybe for other scholarships....still. hmpf.

While waiting on the decisions, I realized I needed to fill out financial aid forms and totally forgot about checking NYU's process. I am a day late too. Oh well. So I sift through their wordy page and figure out where the form was and it led me to an external College Board site to fill out the actual form. No Problem. Until I had to pay $9 to use the form and $16 to submit to NYU! When will this robbery end! I am a little upset with this nickel and dime process. Maybe I should have posted this in the bank forum, but what have you guys been going through filing out financial aid forms? I never experienced anything like that before.

I also love how all the "Plan Bs" are teaching. What if you are already a teacher? What is our plan B!? Lol.

Oh yeah, the scrunched up faces or the mouths agape when you tell someone it is going to take 5-6. You would think I told them I am going to jail.

So, I had something similar happen in January. Got a few missed calls from an area code unknown number. Never got a call from this area code ever! Googled it and it was from a city with one of my top choice schools. So of course, next time it called I answered. It was telemarketing. Sooooo cruel!

Someone else said to me, "There is no money in education." Duh! I have spent 13 years in education, I think my bank account and I know that quite well. Another goodie, "Are you sure you did everything you could on your apps?" I actually considered adding glitter in my FedEx envelope for my transcripts, but hopefully spending almost 6 months preparing for the GRE, 3 months on the statement and obsessing over my apps even AFTER I submitted should be enough. Well, I guess I could have sent a musical card too.
