  1. I had this happen to me right before the holiday break, stressed me out! See if you can call ETS to find out what cycle number they sent your scores to the school. You shouldn't have to reorder, the school can look it up once they have a cycle number. That is what my school had to do and voila! It was there. File complete. Hope that helps!
  2. People keep telling me, "You'll get in somewhere." For some reason that just makes me more frustrated and doesn't comfort me at all. So since I have no time to make a video about this. Plus there like a million videos about what "people say" on YouTube. Care to share what people have been saying to you? Just for humor folks
  3. I am working on a documentary based on my research and I have no experience at all in making movies. So reading up on how to make one and writing a script/outline now. Meeting with my film crew tomorrow to discuss logistics. I mean who knew documentaries had scripts? This project is going to keep me busy for the next few months for sure. On top of that ambitious goal, I am still working full-time, volunteering and running a non-profit as well. So it would seem I wouldn't have time to be on these forums...yeah right. I always have time for Grad Cafe'!
  4. I have to say this forum is awesome! I laughed and smiled at so many of your responses. Good luck to everyone and I hope that everyone gets to do all the above!
  5. Thanks for being willing to answer some questions for us hopefuls! If you don't mind sharing what EdD program?
  6. Someone told me to stay off the message boards! Hey, this is the only thing that keeps me somewhat sane!
  7. Ugghhhhhhh....Monday I emailed about interview invites to Emory and they said they were still reviewing applications Tuesday. Wednesday, an invite was posted on the results board, then this morning (Thursday now in Korea) another invite was posted. I am going to assume that I am not being considered at this point. This has not been a good week.
  8. I emailed and asked about invites and got a response the next day saying they were still reviewing applications. No one had posted they received one for my particular program, but several interview posts were from the same graduate school. I think if you have seen posts of others in your program getting them, just politely ask. I think it would be okay.
  9. Thanks so much! Sending positive vibes your way too!
  10. I became "that chick" and emailed my program about interview notices... Nice of them to respond that they aren't done reviewing yet. :-D

  11. FYI fanon_fanatic and viewers on this post. As of today, Emory ILA is still reviewing apps according to the email response from them when I asked about interviews. So keep hope alive!
  12. UPDATE: I emailed and got a response saying that the department is still reviewing apps. So there is still hope...aka ANXIETY! ;-D
  13. Thanks for your advice, I just emailed the grad program contact. I hope you hear something back soon for your program!
  14. Hello all, Need some advice here. Because I have been obsessively checking the results board, it seems that a lot of Emory applicants from various programs are hearing back now about interviews, but no one has posted an interview request for my specific program at Emory. I know all programs don't have the same protocols/deadlines... but just reading the boards, it seems consistent that the graduate school has notified last week (programs ranging from anthropology to sociology) I am tempted to email the program and ask if they have sent out invitations yet. I am just not sure if that would be appropriate to ask. Maybe part of me doesn't want to know if I have been rejected? Advice?
  15. Totally understand this, I am trying to quit but find myself lighting up because I am so nervous all the time!
  16. Totally understand. None of my programs I applied to are the same. I am applying for education, sociology, interdisciplinary, american studies and social policy PhDs! I was only going to apply to two schools, because I also don't believe in safety schools and had a strong sense of what I wanted to study and live. However, I was cajoled into applying to some more and actually found a third program that I am super excited about, the other two are great as well but the most ideal? Not so much. I am also checking that results board often and being on this forum has been cathartic at times. I will let you know about USC and Emory, looks like we are both applying there!
  17. I am not treating myself to anything but a pat on the back. I am going to have to move from S.Korea to America, get an apartment, pay for moving expenses and I might have to buy a car, depending on the school. Plus I have to buy a laptop, because I have to give my work MacBook back when I leave my job. The list of expenses...I can't afford a treat which sucks since I might be living in poverty for the next 5-6 years in a PhD program :-(
  18. Good luck to you too! I thought I would not be checking my email so much, but I can't help it! What school is your first choice?
  19. Trying to quit smoking and waiting on application results? Not a great idea.

  20. If I didn't have to be so responsible early in life, I would have chosen to pursue art or acting. I imagine that if I don't get in anywhere for a PhD...I will become an author/cat lady.
  21. I am applying to Emory ILA. I made a thread but no one posted, so I thought I might be the only one! What are you planning to study? Good luck to you. On another note, just reviewing the results survey page from previous years, the ILA should be notifying us sometime this or next week it seems to invite us to interviews because typically interview weekends have been the first weekend of February. I am going to assume if I don't hear back by the end of January, I didn't make the cut. This is my #1 choice because it is my hometown, the flexibility of the program and outstanding financial support. I will be hurt if I don't interview.
  22. I work abroad and had to turn down my work contract in December in order to plan to move back to the states for school. Keeping my job until I hear back is not an option. Also, after four years abroad I am ready to move back to the states for personal reasons. So, I have no job and no residence when I move back in the next 5 months. Fortunately, I have savings that I could live a year without work. I don't want to do that though. I want to get my PhD! So what is my plan B? I don't think I will reapply to a PhD program if I don't get in anywhere this year. Kudos to those of you that keep trying. I am a strong believer that if things don't happen, they weren't meant to be. My plan B is to pursue my other passion; writing and starting my non-profit while living off my savings. After dedicating 10 years in education and eradicating inequities, if none of the schools accept me, this is no longer the field for me. I could easily go back to my old job in the states, but that would be frustrating. I might even go back abroad after a year or so in the states. Either way, I am not reapplying. So this is my one shot.
  23. I live overseas, so I plan on posting my acceptances on Facebook just to save myself the repetitive conversation with multiple friends and family via Skype or email. I think it would be interesting do a Facebook poll as to where I should go in the fall if I were to get multiple acceptances, just to see what my friends have to say.
  24. My app was incomplete for HGSE and I found out they never received my GRE scores. I found that out before the winter break. So I had a stressful holiday thinking about it. Called ETS and now my file says complete online. I will say, throughout this mess and I also emailed HGSE prior to applying, they have been pretty good about responding and are friendly. On another note, just reading the results surveys from past years, I realize that the time for Emory's interview weekend is fast approaching (usually early Feb according to the data). I am now checking my email repeatedly hoping for an invite!
  25. Harvard finally found my GRE scores after several emails and a call to ETS. Now my application status says "complete". A short sigh of relief.

Anzaria - did you do GSAS? I did too and the only option is calling or emailing. I think Clou12 applied to a different school at Harvard (but why couldn't WE get a status website too??)

I applied to GSE. It says complete on the application page. I also applied to GSAS, no word on that site though.

Yeah, I applied to GSAS. I didn't call or email because I assumed that they would have sent me an email if something was missing? I sent my documents well in advance and all my other universities had received them, so I thought that would be true of Harvard as their deadline was 15 days later. I hope I didn't make a mistake there...
