  1. I just submitted my last app just now and I feel relieved. Although, I am not looking forward to the next three months obsessively checking email. I am not looking forward to all the holiday conversations revolved around it either. I keep second guessing myself one minute and then thinking "if they don't want me at their school it's their loss". I did not re-sign my job contract for next year, so if I don't get in anywhere I am going to be unemployed too. BONUS! Anyways, to all of you good luck!
  2. Clicked "submit" on my last application. Now time to pack for holiday travel! Happy Holidays everyone!

  3. Here is just my overall feeling after reading it. It really had an "observer" feel to it. Do you have any more active things you have done while in Korea? Could you tell maybe just one strong story about your experiences in Korea? I definitely would work on the ending because your position as a staff assistant was thrown in there quickly, but honestly, as a reader I am interested in reading more about that and what was the knowledge you gained from it. Overall, pick one story to tell, right now you are telling three. Either the ESL teaching or your N.Korea trip, or the Judiciary Committee work. I would lead with the Senate work as the hook and say something like that inspired you to move abroad to gain a global perspective and maybe focus on that. Only my opinion though, wish you the best of luck.
  4. I just checked my app online for HGSE and it says my app that I submitted a month before the deadline is "incomplete" due to missing GRE scores. Ummm...I took the test in July and the report shows ETS sent it to HGSE 7/15. The official deadline is a week away! I shouldn't have to order another report since it shows they have it, also it wouldn't get there in time! I just emailed the admissions office because I am panicking a bit. I am hoping someone is just slacking in HGSE's office verifying scores and putting in the system, because I might just have a freakin' heart attack.
  5. So far my application is saying incomplete because of no GRE scores? ETS shows they reported it 7/15/11!

  6. 4/5 Apps done, all transcripts, recommendations are in too. I have a long wait ahead.

  7. Doh! Realized I made some minor errors on my SOP and it is already submitted. $&8!

Don't worry about it. Life is too short.

There's no such thing as a perfect SOP, so I think you'll be OK :)

      Thanks everyone! :-D

  8. I have submitted 3 out of 5. Kudos to those who apply to 10-15 programs. I don't have the $ or energy for that. Plus, I am pretty specific about where I want to go and if I can't get in those places, I don't want to go to grad school at all. Anywars, all the transcripts, GRE scores have been sent and any hardcopy info the programs required. I felt pretty confident when I clicked "submit" but now, I am having a lot of anxiety about my apps. One moment I am like, "if they don't want me, their loss!" next moment I am like, "I am not competitive, my scores are too low, my sop sucks..." I wish that these programs had rolling admissions, because waiting until Feb/Mar might give me an ulcer!
  9. Three apps sent in and now I have self-doubt.

  10. Thanks for the tip! I identified three professors I want to work with in my SOP. The SOP is done and already reviewed by others, now I am working on that obstacles statement. All my recommendations are in, transcripts sent...guess it is up to me now! Do you have any other advice tut? What program are you studying at HGSE? Do you enjoy it there? Again thanks for the tip and hopefully you could answer my questions if you have time!
  11. Anyone out there applying this 2012 application season? I just sent my application because it was free before the 31st. If you are applying, let's share and discuss until we get in!
  12. Thought I would start a thread for those of us applying for the 2012 school year. Let's share and discuss! I am applying for culture, communities and education- anyone else out there?
  13. Illinois Urbana-Champaign. But they also don't offer much in funding.
