  1. Life is full of compromises -- and marriage doubly so. When I was living in Northampton I heard an interview with Smith college's president. She said that when she and her husband got married they agreed to take turns on whose career took precedence. For ten years they lived in the place that was best for his career, and then it was her turn for the next ten years. That was when she came to Smith as president. It sounded like a really nice arrangement for two people who respect each other and each other's careers.

    Berkeley

I chose Berkeley because the program was the best fit for my interests and career goals. Also, the group I will be studying with there is well known in my field which implies that I will have an easier time finding a job after graduation.
  3. I was an undergrad at the UofC. Great place. The only times I really noticed the grad students were when they were TAs for my classes. I was fairly peeved that my calculus class was taught completely by a TA with an accent so thick I couldn't understand a word he was saying. On the other hand, the TAs for the physics classes were invaluable as they could often explain things from a less lofty height than the Nobel-winning physicists that taught many of the classes. Generally though I would say that I felt the professors paid a lot of attention to the undergrads. In fact since we were in the minority, I sort of felt that made us special.
  4. I'm still deciding. Visiting other possibility (UW) this week. My program would be Quantitative Methods and Evaluation (part of Policy & Org). Berkeley has offered my a fellowship, but I've not heard about funding from UW.
  5. I'm considering. I'll be up for the Prospective Days in early April. Will you be there? I've heard nothing about funding, and that would make a big difference since I'm out of state and Berkeley has already offered me a fellowship. Did you apply to scholarships for Washington? I wonder if I messed up by not applying .... thought those were for financial hardship cases only which is not a camp I currently fall into (being employed).
  6. I just received an email -- wait-listed for Educational Psychology. Anyone get accepted who plans to turn them down??? Doesn't seem likely. Anyway, now at least I've finally heard from all my schools. Time to make decisions ....

    Berkeley

As for housing -- I'll be bringing a family of four to Berkeley, so I'm looking at the Family Student Housing in University Village (in Albany). It should be affordable for us as long as my husband can find a job! If anyone else is looking at this option, I recommend applying immediately. There is a long wait list and although I applied the day after receiving my acceptance letter, they are not sure there will be an opening for us. I'm really looking forward to living in a city again. I did my undergrad in Chicago and really miss the convenience of city life. Walking to groceries and restaurants; taking mass transit to cultural hot-spots. I've been stuck in suburbia for too long!

I'd say I'm 90% sure I'll be at Berkeley next year. It's my top-choice program, and heck, they admitted me. Gotta hear about funding and convince the husband before the deal is sealed though. Who else is probably/definitely/maybe headed to Berkeley?
  9. I'm also in the 'still waiting to hear' camp. And I didn't check the MA box. I'm increasingly getting the feeling that that I should have heard from someone by now if I had been accepted. Sigh. Has anyone else gotten more info? I applied to Educational Psychology.
  10. Yes! I applied to Quantitative Methods and Evaluation at Berkeley (accepted), Educational Psychology at SUSE (still waiting), and Learning Sciences at U Washington (still waiting). That last one is not a statistics program, but the UW stats program has weird deadlines. I'm hoping that I can do a cross technology and stats there (if I go there).
