  1. Congrats on the contact wayoutwest128!!! I hope the funding comes through for you!
  2. OMG, I do that to my SO all the time! And I freak out when his numbers fluctuate: "what do you mean 80%? Last week you said 90%!!!" Any one else's friends, family and SOs suffering from our constant anxiety and obsession lately? lol
  3. I still remember living out of country when I was applying for undergrad, and my housing packages didn't arrive until late August. Fortunately the admissions were sent electronically. One of my schools does snail mail, and it's any day now... any day now... ><'' (It's ironic how the shortest month of the year is now the longest ay?)
  4. As his sweaty palms reached for the deadly weapon, he was reminded of all that was at stake: if he couldn't walk away victoriously from Round One, his future would seem terribly bleak indeed.
  5. Someone updated on the Results Survey: USC called for an acceptance!!! I wonder who it is, but yay! In the meantime, I'm staring at my phone, silently BEGGING it to ring... plz plz plz?
  6. Yeah, I feel ya. SUSE Masters is the same. Mid-March. Their PhD is earlier though, usually around mid-Feb
  7. Ugh to the wait-time. Last year PhD admission notices came end of Feb. I read somewhere they like to give notice on the last week of Feb? But I could be wrong... hmm. I know Masters comes out mid-March
  8. Craaaaaap, you guys are right! I totally forgot ><'' Well, something else to keep me busy then!
  9. In line with the drop a word, keep a word game going on in "Waiting it Out", here's are the rules to this game: Each person writes 1 sentence at a time, continuing the previous sentence to create a crazy and imaginative story over time. For example: Person A: There once was a little bookstore on the corner of Johnson and Bentley. Person B: Little did people know that it housed an underground cult. Person C: The cult was secretly plotting to help relieve the world of stressed out grad school applicants by granting them admission, and soon!!! And you get the picture. Here's the first sentence: Every single day of his life, the sun rose and set without much ado, marking just another mundane day in his oh-so-very mundane life.
  10. Ahhh, it's finally February. January was LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!! Here's to news this month! (Hopefully good news!)
  11. Tell me about it! No e-mail, calls or snail mail. I've resorted to checking grad-cafe non-stop (refresh refresh refresh!!!) to stay in the loop. ><''
  12. Congrats PhDreaming! How exciting! I've decided that I'm just going to post "Moving to (city of school acceptance) in September!!! Who to visit first?" I don't want to seem like I've been shoving this in my friends faces (they're also applying too) but I get to celebrate my little mini (actually epic if I do get in anywhere) victory. Now I only need a victory to post about... still waiting.
  13. Haha! We'll all be looking forward to seeing you in journals and magazines! Well, I guess that might not have been the publication your dad was thinking of...? Love this.
  14. Funny how time is all relative. Time just flew by studying for GREs and filling out these apps. And now I feel like I've lived to a 100 years of age just waiting for February to roll around. I can't believe we've made it! Congrats on getting to this point, it's a huge milestone. Now for the admission decisions to start rolling in...
  15. My roommate's all-too-frequent response to my all-too-frequent stress fests: "But it doesn't matter if you get in, that's not even your top choice school! So why are you stressing out?" Me: "Because if I can't even get in here, how do I stand a chance to my top-choice schools?" Continues to stress about how I will have nothing to do next year. Roommate's response: "It's okay, you can always live at home with your mom. Soooo much better than what you're doing now..." *facepalm*
  16. Thanks! You're the best, I really appreciate it! Ahhhh, so nervous! ><'' I could almost pee myself.
  17. CONGRATS!!! That's epic. So for USC, should we hear by Wednesday, or wait a few days for the post? O.o?!
  18. I do want to agree with Andsowego about having your SOP be research-focused and less about personality traits. I wanted to clarify, your previous actions and background should naturally express your positive personality traits, but you need not express them out-right. For instance, you can mention how this event that you managed and directed made you really passionate about education (it implies leadership, dedication, responsibility...etc) but you shouldn't say "this event demonstrates leadership". Note that your experiences should help explain why you want to be in education, but make it sound positive and promote you at the same time. Let me know how else we all can help.
  19. Well, from the resources I had used for my class, this is one of the initial contributors (others include burning of fossil fuels...etc), but one of the key concerns for Global Warming from what I know is the evaporation of water. If you increase the Earth's surface temperature, it increases the amount of water being evaporated into the atmosphere. Water being a Greenhouse Gas, it increases the Greenhouse Effect, which increases the temperature more, which evaporates more water, and this is a constant (and sadly vicious) cycle that contributes to Global Warming. Really sad to know actually...
  20. Congrats!!! Über excited for you! Good luck in them, you'll rock, I know it.
  21. You are awesome! I really appreciate what you are doing. This might seem like a silly question, but I've applied to both HGSE and SUSE. Will professors contact for phone interviews like all the other schools? Or will we just find out results when they come out? Because I couldn't find any past posts of phone interviews with professors for these schools on gradcafe's results search. Appreciate any help or info. Thanks!
