Did you inquire about your rank?

Try calling again or email. When I emailed she got back to me in exactly 4 hours. I don't think you should have to wait the weekend. Just try another time or two. Sorry you're having to wait. :/

They're referring to last year since the publication refers to Fulbright meetings held in the summer/fall of 2011. So last year 80 applicants applied for however many spots were available (that info isn't easy to find for Morocco ETA, seems to stop at 2010-2011, 12 grants). So between 10 and 12 probably?...

Just an update/FYI: I don't know if anyone noticed but there was another Alternate promoted to Accepted today (Sheelal90, Sri Lanka). I'm a little thrown off by the dates... I think Sri Lanka actually heard on 3/25/2012. So that puts the time from first notification to promotion at just over two weeks. And LLJKedge (who was promoted for Germany) heard just over three weeks after he got his alternate notification. It's very promising to see people being promoted to accepted. And it seems that it's happening relatively quickly. Good luck to all alternates!

Latvia doesn't have any ETAs and therefore there is no pre-departure orientation. And hold tight, last year Armenia and Moldova heard on 4/12 and 4/10 respectively. Any day now!

Not all Eastern European countries have committees. Russia and Ukraine have their own committees but I read on a Fulbright podcast transcript that Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, and Georgia make up the Eurasia regional program (Azerbaijan was included too but they have already heard) and that their grants are decided together. I was trying to find out if there were any countries other than Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in the region my application is a part of but I can't seem to find that information. So far it seems most likely that it's only those three.

We've just barely made it over the hump according to the spreadsheet... out of the 81 countries that are represented on the sheet, it looks like applicants to 41.5 (0.5 being Turkey full grants) countries have gotten responses so far. Now we've just got... 39.5 left! And just so you didn't think you were alone in your mind-numbing wait, here's the list of countries that are left: Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Israel, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Mauritius, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Turkey (ETA), Ukraine, Venezuela. We're almost there! A lot of people were told mid-April and that's only 4 days away!!!

Sorry to hear that kbui. I'm sure the future has lots in store!

I disagree... I got into a great epidemiology program with zero epi/PH experience. That doesn't mean I had no work experience but I came from an outside field and was wanting to break into PH. PH experience can be helpful but it doesn't make or break an application. It definitely should not keep you from applying. One of the great things about PH schools is that they seem to appreciate diversity in the educational and professional backgrounds of their students. Your major and coursework seem fine in terms of pre-requisites. Take the classes you want to take and enjoy your last term!

Does this mean acceptances went out on different days for the same country? Because sammygoose said their email came on 3/30. This makes me more confused than ever about the process.
-
Thanks for sharing this. If they need authorization then I guess a lot of us can expect to not hear anything from now until at least the middle of next week since a lot of countries are on holiday (especially in Europe).

Well first, I believe the decisions are made by the Fulbright commissions in the respective countries we are applying to (if they have one) or by the "supervising agencies abroad" for those of us applying to countries without these specific commissions and not by embassies. I do not know the technical aspects of regional allotments for grants, but this is the reasoning given for why many countries are so delayed in their grant decisions. I believe that each country is given an estimated number of grants that are contingent on that year's projected budget. Thus, if the actual budget is less the region takes longer because they have to decide which country(ies) takes the hit and loses a grant. Likewise, if the budget is greater they must decide which country(ies) get an extra grant or two. Obviously these types of decisions would be far more complex when dealing with multiple countries. This is what my mind imagines happens. I'm pretty sure that by the time the decisions reach IIE the funding issues have already been addressed. And I am not sure why a candidate that is chosen by the country wouldn't be given the grant... Anyone else?

I have that date circled on my calendar! I know patience is supposed to be a virtue and all...
-
Muwhahaha!!! I was going through the last few pages for the spreadsheet and saw this post... Perhaps I could distract myself with old game shows like that one! Those were the days.
-
I am so happy you finally broke the silence with great news! Congrats!
-
They just want the medical information to be up-to-date so it needs to be within six months of the beginning of your grant period. It's already April so you're now within 6 months, right?
-
I would contact the IIE program manager for your region and inquire about your status.
-
Congratulations! That's awesome!
-
She said mid to late April. Obviously I am hoping it's the former. The last couple years it's been right in the middle of the month.
-
Haven't heard of anyone so far for Estonia but there are two for Lithuania and one for Latvia (me). Usually the Baltics are all on the same schedule and we're trying to be patient... and btw I'll add your info the spreadsheet.
-
Latvia's page has said there is a pre-departure orientation since I can remember checking it last semester. But in all other Fulbright literature, it's been pretty clear that only a few countries are being included this year (and Latvia isn't one of them). I would not assume the country summary to be a beacon of truth.
-
No worries. It looks like the people responding that they got it were ETA candidates. Plus we don't have pre-departure orientation for the Baltics, we just have a verrrrry long wait for our results. Btw, I emailed Rachel (omg, I caved) and she said middle to late April. I am hoping sooner.

I was beginning to feel that our numbers would start dwindling with all of these notification but judging by the spreadsheet there are still a lot of us that are waiting to hear back. Just a little while longer and we'll all have our emails! Countries that haven't heard: Andorra, Argentina (full), Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Finland, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritius, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam. Hopefully there will be a bunch more this week and next!
-
Congrats to both of you!!! It's weird to be excited for strangers! But I am!
-
No, but we have a spreadsheet you can go to and keep track of it. https://docs.google....tnY2k3bmc#gid=0 There are two others who applied (full grants) and are waiting on Morocco as well. GL!
