5/10 done! It feels good to hit the halfway mark!
-
I got an email from Harvard this morning saying that they were aware of the technical difficulties.
-
3/10 done!
-
Thanks! I pretty much just copied the relevant info from my CV into another doc. I am so ready for this process to be done so I can stop overthinking everything...

A couple of the schools I am applying to want a seperate honors and awards document. Any advice on how to format this? Thanks!

2/10 are done, I'm trying to get the next five done this weekend or by Tuesday at the latest. OSU and MSU have not received my transcripts so I am worried, but I called them and they don't seem concerned. They both said that they were probably on someone's desk. I requested them about a month ago and I got my copies right away. I am really trying hard not to freak out. Two of my LORs have not gotten to one school, but I know that they were all sent out. The other school is still missing one but said that that prof can email it tomorrow. So much to juggle... I have about ten emails to send out, a lecture to cut and a powerpoint to create. But the end is in sight...

One application down, nine to go! Now I have to create my powerpoint for tomorrow...

So NYU is having problems allowing pdfs to upload... Not helpful.
-
Thanks and good luck Goldie! I got the revisions done and sent off to everyone who needs to read them.

I am now working on my sixth revision of my SoP and I am beginning to panic... It's still not quite right and it has to be right ASAP. *sigh* I'll be so glad when this process is over...

I am applying to UPenn, I cobbled together ten pages from my thesis. I'm still working on it... The 20 pages for Harvard weren't bad because one of my thesis chapters was 17 pages once I took out the images and reformatted the margins.

I am having a hard time getting my transcripts to upload for NYU... Grrrrrrrrr. I also misread what MSU wants, a personal statement and career statement, I have a lot to do this week... I have to spend the rest of the night grading so I have to ignore these issues!

I scanned my transcripts and my whole thesis, and when I pulled up my thesis the whole thing is crooked! I'm going to have to do it all over again on Monday... At least it is an easy process, our department has a copier that scans the doc and emails it to my account. I just wanted to have it all done...

I spoke to James Bach today and he said emailing him everything wasn't a requirement, it is backup just in case something doesn't come through. I'll probably do it anyway...

I'm finishing up a few things for the December 1 deadlines. I did start all of my apps, but my SoP is in the last stage of revision. I'm scanning my transcripts and my thesis today. The University of Pennslyvania will only take ten pages too, I cobbled together ten pages from my thesis.

It depends, some of my programs just want the transcripts from the schools I earned degrees from, others want all of the transcripts. Lucily, it was only three schools for me.
-
I just got my SoP back from another prof I respect... He tore it to shreds, and I agree with his feedback. *sigh* December 1 is coming way too fast...

Thanks again Sigaba. I don't count on being admitted to any schools based on these correspondence, but it reinforces that my research is on the right track. I am well aware of the politics of PhD admissions, and luckily my current position has allowed senior faculty members who have served on PhD app committees at other schools to guide me in this process. I am basically going to write back asking about research funding and things along those lines. One of my POI is my mentor's mentor, and I am also writing a portion of a panel conference proposal with both of them. There really are no sure things with this process...

Sigaba, I meant to thank you for the advice. It really helped me. I did tell my students today that it would be at least two weeks before they got things back from me. If I get done sooner, good for them. Now I just need to clean up my SoP (meeting with a prof tomorrow who told me it needs a lot of work), and get my writing samples back from my readers so I can complete my apps!
-
I need some guidance... I have gotten amazing feedback from my PIO emails. Everyone I've written loves my research and they are taking students next year, but I have no idea what to write them back! I'm not sure what questions I should be asking about their programs. Suggestions? TIA!

I am starting to reach the point of a nervous breakdown... The December 1 deadline is looming, I am still refining my SoP, I have a bunch of profs reading my writing samples... Each application is so complicated, I feel ill. On top of the apps, I am drowning in paper, my students aren't going to get anything back from me for weeks. I am also trying to figure out how to get all of my content in by the end of the semester. Pressure is on...

I am applying to OSU as well, but I haven't started the application yet. It was on my list for tomorrow. Sounds frustrating though...

My class observation went really well, so that is a tremendous load off of my shoulders. I passed a writing sample and my SoP to another prof, and I am in the process of editing two more so I can pass these off to other profs in the department. I need to write an exam over the next few days, read a bunch of articles, and finally start writing potential advisors. I did decide to take Monday off to get things done, luckily we have wonderful graduate assistants to proctor my exams! I am planning on starting the app process at some of the schools and I have five classes of papers to grade. It never ends...

I took mine last spring, and every department is different. In my program, the written comps tested us in the classes we had in each of the classes we had with our committee members. I took one class with one prof, two with another, and four with my thesis chair. Any of these classes and the materials covered were fair game. Each prof provided two questions, and I chose one to write on for an hour. So, it was basically three hours of vomiting words. I wrote a thesis, so I did not have to take the oral comps. If I had done the non-thesis track, all of the classes I took over the two years I was in the program would have been fair game. We didn't have an additional book list assigned for our comps. Good luck!

I got one lecture written and the powerpoint and quiz finished. I need to write the study guide tonight, cut a lecture down and finish the powerpoint for the week. I decided on applying to ten schools, I just got another batch of writing sample critiques back from my mentor. The chair is observiing my class on Wednesday so I am a wreck just thinking about it. I have so much to do in the next week or so, the December 1 deadlines are looming...
