Got my rejection letter from Harvard! Framing that shit.
-
Let's start our own grad school.

They are such a wild card!

:-) Thanks for the support! It's good to hear.

Official rejection from Brown via e-mail. Can we have a moment of silence for my top choice, please?
-
Tufts rejection was me. Got an e-mail last week that decisions would be up soon, and found the rejection this morning. Stings!
-
Arcadian, that was an excellent summary of points to consider when entering the field!
-
Nothing from cog here, either.
-
Applied, haven't heard. According to their website decisions will happen pretty late, it seems. I think they say you'll be notified in Feb/March?
-
...dang!

What you think the adcoms are saying about your application
che psyra psyra replied to DeWinter's topic in Waiting it Out
Every prof I've asked about this so far has said something along the lines of "I've heard that, but I don't really get it/think its true." I think a good program is a good program is a good program, so if it has the right resources for you, go for it. Someone's vague doubts about your ability to leave the nest won't make or break whatever future opportunity, so long as you've performed well. -
Haha, that's funny. I'm assuming mine was a telemarketer... I never used to get them on my cell, but I've had THREE in the last month!

My sincere congrats to those with interviews, but yes, I'm feeling this. Also, had a missed call from an unknown number today with no voicemail. Just cruel!

What will you treat yourself to?

But these can be rewards OR consolation prizes! Great excuse to indulge, you'll need a present either way. -

A really nice fancy schmancy dinner or three! And seconding that leather messenger bag - it just completes the whole academic image, no? -
Hypothetical interview question
che psyra psyra replied to hyperjulie's topic in Interviews and Visits
I second Coonskie's advice to ask the POI directly about the tougher stuff, I'm sure she'll be happy to explain it and intelligent questions from you will facilitate a good conversation. As for finding her recent articles, are you using a search engine or did you start at her CV/lab website? These are two places where profs often link full-text PDFs, if you haven't tried that. Good luck! -
Congrats!

If you weren't doing what you are doing, what would you be doing?
che psyra psyra replied to LLajax's topic in Waiting it Out
As far as other fields of study, I definitely dig philosophy and linguistics. But if I were to totally ditch academia altogether... I like teaching, it's something I look forward to as part of my current career plans, so I might pursue that. Probably elementary school, since I love kids. There are careers out there that I'm sure I'd enjoy, but in all honesty my fulfillment would likely come from some other area of life, like family. Cognitive psychology's just where it's at! Nothing else tugs at the heart strings quite as much. -
"Big Sur" by Mason Jennings has been pretty much been on repeat. That guy just chills me out, and I dig on the line "future is as future does". Okay, Mason, I'll dial back the crazy for a minute.

Hoping, hoping! It's pathetic how poorly I've been dealing with the silence thus far.

Nothing from BC.

NO INTERVIEW YET should I be freakingggggg out?
che psyra psyra replied to MinervasOwl's topic in Waiting it Out
...I don't know anything about that either. -
Yes, looking at the results survey it doesn't seem like it was a mass invite... true? Disappointment passing!
-
Rats! Thanks for the info!
