  1. Madrilena, Cossack and erry3779, I'm really happy for you guys!! I'll see you on orientation week!
  2. Haha I think it's just a Fulbright scholarship wrapped under a different name actually, but who am I to complain?
  3. In my case I'll apply for a government scholarship (Chile) that pays full tuition, airline tickets, a living stipend (around US$1.8 K/Month for NYC) and some money for books, insurance, etc. Thankfully those are granted quite liberally for top 150 schools and especially for public policy studies. I'll also use some of my savings to make living a little bit more comfortable (Around US$10K or US$20K).
  4. At about 4:30 PM at GMT -4 (or about 15-20 min before I posted)
  5. Mmm sure, let me think. I'm an engineer so I've got a lot of quantitative courses and experience. My GRE was Q:790 V:660 And W:4.0. I don't know how to calculate my GPA but it was probably decent (top 17% of class). LORs were 2 from private world and 1 from a teacher. I work for an airline so I've had opportunity to travel. I'd guess my main weakness is not having any experience on the public sector.
  6. I sent an email to them since I haven't heard back from then and they said I should have a decision by next week.
  7. benamour and Madrilena25: I got an email linking to the application page.
  8. Got in! No funding, three years work experience in private sector.
  9. OMG in at Columbia SIPA!!!!! I think that ends my application season!
  10. No funding shouldn't come up as such a surprise. It's listed that usually first year applicants don't get funding, and it's reserved for second year students.
  11. I told my boss about 2 and half months before my resignation. He was well aware of the process, since he had written one of my recommendations. However, I decided to quit before I even had an acceptance, since I was working on a for-profit corporation and it wouldn't make sense to keep going if my plan was to pursue a career in the public sector.
  12. At least in my program, it is very common not to see your actual letters of recommendation. What happens is recommenders get access to a certain website where they make their recommendation. This process does not include the one being recommended. So it's quite natural for your son not knowing what his recommenders say about him.
  13. Considering the amount of work they have, I doubt they'll take a break.
  14. Got into Heinz today! 8k funding!! I'm so happy! My first acceptance!!
  15. Hey guys, I just got admitted to CMU Heinz ($8K Funding)!!
  16. The blog is not only meant for current applicants but for future applicants as well. Matt Clemons was the former admissions officer in Columbia, and he was probably in charge of creating their admissions blog, which is quite good and informative. So in his new capacity at Harvard, he probably thought of implementing what he considered was a good communications medium.
  17. It usually involves two things: 1. A Form asking to evaluate you on different aspects (intelligence, motivation, etc.) 2. The actual recommendation letter. Cheers!
  18. Nobody knows. It was launched on September 2010. The first batch of students will start on 2012. So there's actually no way of telling the program's reputation.
