I got R&R.
-
They responded saying they'd let me know definitely by last week, and it's this week, and I haven't heard anything...
-
I'm guessing the math scores will be at the lower end of the ranges we got, and the verbal scores will be at the higher ends. I think that's just because, overall, more people tend to do better on the math than on the verbal. But who knows...
-
Do you guys put publications in undergrad journals on your CVs for grad applications?
-
Yeah, I took the SAT's back in the day. I think I got 780 V, and 690 M. What about you?
-
Took it this afternoon. V: 680-780 M: 750-800

Thanks for the response, crater. I've been getting scores all over the place on Manhattan verbal, too. Glad to hear the actual test is a bit easier; sounds like the math sections are easier than Manhattan's as well.
-
How have people found that the Manhattan Prep verbal sections compare to the actual GRE verbal sections?
-
I followed up on my paper. No response. Bad sign? Probably. Sigh.
-
I'm applying -- music history though! It'll be a stressful year ...
-
Good to know. Thanks! They confirmed they'd received it a day after I sent it.
-
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I will just carry on waiting and will check the info about submissions on the journal's website to see if there is anything about the typical amount of time taken to make decisions.

i visited a few schools i'm applying to. it was very helpful.
-
Ok, thank you. I suppose if I haven't heard anything by the start of September, I may inquire. The deadline for the annual issue isn't until October 31 though, so the editor may just be waiting to read it until after the deadline.
-
I submitted a paper for publication at the start of July, and haven't heard anything about the status of my paper yet. I was wondering if it's ok to follow up, or if I should just wait, perhaps indefinitely? Thank you.
-
That is really good to know! Thanks. I think I will do the same come September, as I think many of my profs might be away at the moment. I've gotten something similar together on my computer -- CVs, personal statement, list of schools/deadlines, writing samples, grades, etc. I put everything together into a single pdf to make thing easier for them.

Heading to the UK for grad school
Karajan replied to Melchior's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
I'll be in Oxford. Thanks for the tips re: travel -
I'm applying to 15. There are a lot of great schools, and I don't feel comfortable applying only to top schools, so I have an A list and a B list...

Hey, I'm not speaking from experience, but I think you have time to retake the GRE, so why not retake it and see if it goes better? I'm under the impression that the GRE doesn't hold a lot of significance in our applications though.

I'm not sure about music-specific scholarships, but here are some scholarships for African students: This seems to be a general list: http://library.stanford.edu/depts/ssrg/africa/grants.html At Oxford: http://www.ox.ac.uk/media/news_releases_for_journalists/110213.html At Cambridge: http://www.magd.cam.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate/scholarships-mandela.html

Cool -- Thanks! I will try that.

I understand exactly what you are saying (although, I still do think that earlier post was rude). I am neither trying to brag nor trying to waste others' time. As you mentioned, no one on this forum is qualified to tell anyone else their "odds" of getting into a school -- That includes people who post their own statistics. I don't really know how I stack up against other people who are applying to grad school in my field, because I don't know what other people's statistics are. I don't know if other people are applying with perfect scores in everything and multiple publications, etc... Thank you for your advice in the second part of your post.
-
This is extremely rude. Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong part of the forum. I haven't used this forum before and I just posted were all the other chances threads were. Thanks to others for the feedback.
