Those questions sound awesome!
-
Big congrats to the recipient of the UChicago theory acceptance!
-
I'd imagine you guys will start hearing very soon... I think I heard from most places in the first few weeks of February last year, except for Columbia and Yale, both of which sent me notices in March.

If it's of use to anyone, if I recall correctly (which is a long shot), I got: Quant: 790 (old scale); 162 (new scale) Verbal: 690 (old scale); 164 (new scale) I don't remember what I got in writing. I think it was a 4.0

Wish I had some comforting words for you guys, but the waiting is truly the worst I definitely gave myself an ulcer last year as a result of all the stress. Look after yourselves! All the applications are in, and there's nothing more you can do at this point!

Berkeley - question

I think they mean that each one can only be 3 pages. -
Looks like there's been some movement on the results board -- Did someone here get into Duke for composition?
-
I got my Penn interview email on 18 Jan, and my Columbia interview email on 26 February.
-
Last year, I had interviews for Columbia and Penn, but no others. Of course, this year, things may be different -- I don't think Princeton interviewed last year, but, this year, they apparently are!
-
Hi! If it helps at all, I heard from Stanford last year on 25 Jan. Good luck!!
-
Eastman interview notifications are out, I believe.

Hi, all -- I applied to the following schools last year for musicology. If any of you are applying to them and have questions about their applications or whatever, just let me know - I may be able to help! UPenn Columbia Yale Cornell Harvard Princeton Berkeley Stanford Michigan
-
Yes, I did, though I know other people who didn't and still did well in terms of admissions.
-
It is very important to apply to schools that are good fits for you. In my view, it does not necessarily matter of there are faculty members at the schools you apply to who study exactly what you study -- i.e. video game music -- but it is important that there are people there who could, nonetheless, advise you. For instance, taking an example closer to what I work on, say you were interested in working on Shostakovich's instrumental music, you could still work with any Russian music specialist, most likely; you wouldn't need to apply only to places where there are Shostakovich specialists. Does that make sense?

Hm... I probably would not have applied to schools that we're good matches, which, for me, were Princeton and Harvard (this isn't me being bitter about not getting admitted to those two - They truly were not good fits). Apart from that, I did start making preparatory measures the summer before applying which turned out to be vital, but there is never enough time. Even though I had my writing samples totally ready and done by October or so, I was still scrambling at the end with nit-picky stuff; maybe there's no avoiding it. That is a bit of a roundabout way of saying that stress in inevitable in this situation, no matter how early you start preparing, so be sure to be kind to yourself and take breaks to try to de-stress as best you can. That's all I can think of right now, but let me know if there are any other questions.
-
Good luck, guys! I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have!
-
Yay! Good luck Let me know if you have any questions about the application process.
-
I'm going, too
-
I don't know too much about this area of study, so forgive me if this advice is off-base, but I think UCLA and Columbia would be two good places to consider.
-
I probably OD-d on the thanking, but, once I'd submitted everything, I sent all my recommenders a gift (tried to think of something each would like--just chose a book for each one) and a thank you note. Now that it's all over, I sent them a more generalized thank you note for all the help over the course of my undergrad career + app process. Maybe it's too much thanking, but I know they did a lot of work for me, so I want to show appreciation

Anyone make the big decision yet? I think I'm going to Berkeley But I haven't decided 100% yet.
-
I'll let you know, sneeze!
