  1. Can a school make you have to decide before April 15th? Just curious.
  2. If your portfolio needs work then you may be best to just take a year or two to totally develop that to your liking. schools want some one I think who knows what they want to do to a certain degree. you don't need a class to get things done, just set up shop in your basement, room, outside, etc. best of luck ! go see as much art as you can in person.
  3. I am also interested in the answer here. I am having feelings that I won't get any funding being on a wait list because those top choices have already been selected. I'm wondering what the chances are from some one getting off a wait list to get decent funding, or is this unheard of?
  4. Have you been out to Chicago to visit the school? If not, possibly this could help you gain a better understanding of what you may be in store for. I can't tell you how it is because I've never been there. Although a visit doesn't tell you how the program is ran or how it will be when you're actually enrolled, it can provide one with some better insight on the over feel of the school, faculty, and students.
  5. Both are good schools in great areas, so wherever you decide to attend if you work your hardest and do the best you can, you'll find plenty of opportunities I imagine. One thing I do find desirable at MassArt is the ability to take advantage of all the surrounded schools. You can take classes from and talk to professors from many great programs. Best of luck! May I ask where you are from?
  6. Make sure you call someone in admissions before you accept a programs offer and just see if they could perhaps offer you more aid. Tell them money is a huge factor in deciding where you will attend (they will of course already know this, but helps to just reaffirm) You can also say that another school has offered you a better package and are curious as to if they could match it or make their offer a little more desirable. It doesn't hurt anything, and you have nothing to lose. Worst case is that the offer still stands unchanged. Best of luck.
  7. I really hope I hear something from MassArt soon! Going to give them a call today and see what's the dealio.
  8. what is it for? many reasons, all subjective to the artist and their own reasons for obtaining this degree. some to have the ability to teach at a university, to develop your work, be surrounded by a group of peers, faculty, and visiting artists. I would say it is for someone that is extremely dedicated to the art making process and wants to do nothing but that for two + years. What is expected is that you just give it your best. They'll have an idea of what you can do in two years based on your portfolio. I would just blow them out of the water and do more than you even thought was possible. Their goal to some extent is to break you down and let you build yourself back up, which in turn will lead to a possibly stronger body of work. The one question I always ask myself is "why are you painting?" and that seems to help. hah

    Piercings?

Just be sure it is something you want and not just a whim. Other than that, if you can back up its justification for being a part of your body, go for it!
  10. Hoping to hear something from MassArt soon. Anyone hear anything other than acceptances?
  11. Happy Monday everyone! Hope well all hear some news this week, best of luck!
  12. I'm hoping to hear from CCAD today, congrats on the waitlist!
  13. That's great lfwd, so happy for you! That must feel amazing getting in to every program you applied to, congrats
  14. It is certainly going to be hard making it just selling your work, grad school or not. The main benefit I see from it are reasons listed above, but most importantly being immersed in art thought with some great artists for two years straight, and having the ability and credentials to teach when you come out. Don't give up yet, sounds like the person who called your work dope has a bit of a fuck it personality with no real good reasons to back up why not to go. of course it's going to be a lot of money but if you can lasso some scholarships and grants it shouldn't be a huge problem. I also know there are people (sometimes professors, ha!) who laugh at getting an MFA to teach, I find this a bit contradictory and a little naive. Either way it is your decision and best of luck!
  15. I guess this really all depends on what you think about the school offering you full tuition and a TA position. I understand your concern in wanting to go to your top choice as I'm sure it is a better program but coming out with nothing and coming out with 60k debt are two different animals. Not liking the city is also understandable but for the most part you will be concentrating on your work and not the city. Best of luck !
  16. Congrats! Pittsburgh is a great city.
  17. More work? hah, who knows. won't know for sure until ya get a no.
  18. I'm hoping that those of us who were not notified yesterday are on a wait list, and they're waiting to hear back from the people that got acceptances to know whether or not they still need applicants.
  19. I know the 2d program was notified yesterday through e-mail. Not sure about SIM.
  20. No news from MassArt yet but still thinking positive! As for good news, I just received acceptance to KCAD (Kendall College of Art + Design) in Michigan with a half-tuition scholarship! Was a little unsure about this program when I applied, and frankly still am. Was curious if anyone has any opinions on the MFA program at KCAD or knows anyone that has had experience there. Thanks!
