  1. I finished yesterday. I then had to pack up my stuff, which mysteriously multiplied over my six week holiday break, drive to Wisconsin, and unload everything in time for class at 11 this morning. I'm only just opening my computer for the first time since submitting my UConn app yesterday. BUT I'M DONE! I'M DONE! I'M DONE DONE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Phew. Applied to two Ivy Leagues today. Glad to have that over with.

  3. Me, too! Just submitted Brown this afternoon! ...but I still have two (maybe three more). Darn.
  4. I haven't had much time for pleasure reading with all these apps and work, but I did finally get myself to begin Swann's Way. I do this literally every break, get to about page 20, and then decide I don't have enough time for it. This time I've gotten about 100 pages through, and hopefully once apps are done and my class schedule is a little freer, I'll be able to finish it. I also just started Lawrence Durrell's Justine. I'm feeling it's going to be one of those books I read very slowly, because if I plow through it the beauty of the language won't have the effect it should.
  5. I've already found my study spot in Austin. It was an awful idea coming here before admission time rolls around. I am in love.

Ooh, how nice!! That's how I felt when I visited Berkeley and Madison :)

  6. I've had some applications say this, but check with your individual program. My program (English) in almost all cases notes that it wants three, even when the app itself says a minimum of two. So, if you're used to three as the norm, I'd say you're probably good!
  7. I do this every single day, with no shame. Carry on.
  8. Visting the UT-Austin campus today! Yay!!

      awesome! hope you enjoy :)

  9. As I get closer and closer to the end of applications (and the beginning of hellish waiting), little things like this can brighten my day and make me remember that what I'm doing is worthwhile. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jennagoudreau/2011/12/15/best-jobs-for-women-in-2012-salary-satisfaction-security-growth/
  10. I HATE apps that won't let me send my LOR requests until the whole thing is submitted. Grrrrrr. (I mean you, IU!!!)

Hah I applied to IU, too, and I was irritated by that. ;)

Thirded! I submitted a month early out of guilt for my recommenders; now I'm just twiddling my thumbs... =P

      I HATE that!

  11. On the bright side, I guess that's better than Duke's typical 8? ...
  12. Dear Cornell, Your 2 p, single-spaced SOP makes me very, very happy. Love, bdon

I know! I had just gotten done writing a 500 word so I didn't know what to do with myself!

  13. Don't worry, I'm right here with you. Honestly, I wouldn't worry so much. I freaked out when I found typos in my first few submissions. I'm sure just about everyone will have missed something in their writing samples. These people are going to be reading so many samples their eyes probably won't even register them, anyway! Chin up, friend! We're all in this together!
  14. Today is my birthday, and naturally I'm spending it working on my Cornell SOP. All I want for my birthday is to get in. I'm falling in love all over again.
  15. Thanks, marlowe! I'm actually spending today working, and then finishing my Cornell application...of course. But I made a point to take the entire weekend off, so it's time to get cracking! Haha
  16. I have to, HAVE TO listen to music while I do work. I also have to be in a somewhat noisy environment--coffee shops, talking floors of libraries, etc. tend to work best for me. Typically, I listen to the same things while I work that I do as I go about any other business. Typically indie rock/folk type stuff. @Dimanche, I could never really get into Mumford and Sons (though "Little Lion Man" is THE best song ever once I have a few drinks in me). I listen to a lot of The National, The Weepies, Rilo Kiley, Belle & Sebastian...that kind of stuff. And when I'm working last-minute on anything, Taylor Swift is the best. Guilty pleasure music to the max.
  17. Finding typos in already-submitted writing samples is the worst. THE worst.

I find a new batch of mistakes with each submission! It's like a game now!

  18. That's awesome! Chicago is the best at Christmastime. I just wish I had time to actually enjoy working in the city. I've forced myself not to look at any applications tonight. I am way too exhausted from this week. Of course, I have to look at Cornell sometime in the near future, especially if it's going to be dumb and not let you upload CVs and all that jazz. Stupid, stupid.
  19. THIS. I thought it would be so much easier applying once I'd started break. But this past week I've been working full time, commuting to and from downtown Chicago. I leave my house at 6:30 am and usually don't get home until 7. It's been awful. And, seeing as temping like I'm doing now is my alternative if I don't get in this year, well...now I realize just how much harder it'll be if I don't get in now.
  20. Hopefully that means mine is on the way! Oh, blah. Rutgers, you are silly.
  21. Bahaha, "rude." Have you gotten yours yet? I'm still waiting...
  22. Phew, it was Michigan's fault, after all. My letter writer responded back right away and said she thought she'd already uploaded it. She tried it again, and it went through. Of course, she could have been making excuses...but I'll believe her this time!
  23. Fuck, fuck, fuck. I'm freaking out again. I FINALLY submitted my application, just to find out that one of my letters isn't in. And of course Michigan explicitly says, "Please make it clear to all recommenders that your application processing will not be complete if we do not receive your letters by the December 15 deadline. Your recommenders will not be able to submit electronic letters after this date." I've already sent her a freak-out email, but god knows if she'll be checking her email this late. She's an hour later right now, too. laks;dkfj;alksjd;lfkj;alsjd;lfjalksjd;fjas If I just wasted hours of my time and 65 bucks to be immediately rejected, I'm going to be pissed.
  24. I've been saving-as so many copies of my writing sample that I think I may have used the wrong one for UT-Austin. The one with the typos I had actually fixed in later drafts. I hate this. Also, I am working on my personal statement and am talking about one of my LOR writers to a ridiculous extent. I also am solely focusing on the "education" part of what they want. I'm tying in a tiny bit about financial stuff, but I don't want to write a sob story. I already felt pressured to do that in the app, when they ask about financing your education up to this point. Blah. This is the dumbest app, I have to say.
  25. I am currently recovering from a panic induced by my mother's momentary insistence that midnight PST was 10 pm central time. Oh, man. I think my heart may finally have stopped racing. I AM LITERALLY GOING INSANE. But, on the bright side, after realizing I still had some time, I took a nice hot bubble bath and got some ideas for my personal statement!!!! Delusional. Completely delusional.
