  1. has anyone heard from Harvard FVS?
  2. Check out the profs at U of T and McGill in Canada!
  3. I wrote the writing sample that I sent along with my application a while ago. Since then, a professor at a school where I am applying has written a short text about the same subject (published in 2016). Is it necessary for me to go back and edit my sample and add his text to my bibliography? Or can I just leave the text as is. Will this professor understand that, if his name is not in my bibliography, I wrote it before his text came out? Thanks!
  4. I can't imagine living as an unpaid intern in NYC. Even surviving when making minimum wage it difficult. There are lots of museums that offer paid internships in the city (the Met, MoMA and now the Whitney etc. ). If you'd be coming from abroad (which means more than 1,000$ for a work visa at least on top of the cost of living in nyc), it may be worth waiting until you get one of those...
  5. Thanks Rising Star! Unfortunately, I don't have committee members, or anyone who has read my thesis apart from my supervisor. I also never worked as a TA or RA. Thanks for your advice!
  6. I'm struggling with who to ask for a letter. I have an MA, and my advisor will be writing for me, but I only took one course max. with other profs during my MA. I did very well in all of my courses, but I did not get to work closely with Professors. I'm wondering if I should go back and ask one of my professors from my Undergrad (not a very well known institution), which I left in 2012. Even though my research interests have changed a lot, my undergrad research paper supervisor might be more able to speak of my research. I guess another question would be: what is important to consider when choosing who to ask? I also have a lot of work experience, but I don't think that my supervisors there could say anything about my research. Any help or advice truly appreciated! Thank you!
  7. I'm wondering if this thread could be used to identify key up and coming art historians and theorists doing important work. I'm noticing that I'm mostly identifying potential advisors that may be close to retirement (which pose a problem in the long run). I hope this is useful for somebody. I'm mostly interested in contemporary art. Any thoughts?
  8. What have you found helpful? Thanks! And best of luck to all test takers!
  9. Does anyone have any experience or advice concerning contacting departments to ask for feedback about rejected applications? Has it been useful for anyone?
  10. Does anyone have any recommendations for a German language summer school program (1-2 months)? Has anyone attended any? Thanks!
  11. To the person who wrote "third round of applying" beside their Stanford admit: congrats! This type of information keeps me hopeful. I have had no positive news this season, and am starting to think that I will have to apply again next year. For anyone who got in the second or third time: what did you change? what do you think made you stand out after the first time? Please feel free to PM me. Thank you!
  12. Has anyone heard anything?
  13. Did anyone else apply to an internship at MoMA PS1? Has anyone heard back? Thanks!
  14. I am trying to decide between MA in Art History at UBC, UofT or McGill. I only have funding for McGill and UBC (twice the amount McGill is offering...). Any advice? Has anyone completed a program at any of these schools?
  15. Hi all, I will be applying to grad schools this year and I've noticed many schools do not require you to send in your cv with your application. I've been working a museum for the last 2 years of my undergrad, and have worked 2 jobs (+ a bunch of extracuriculars) during the 4 years of my degree. I feel as though my marks would be higher if I hadn't worked so much, and gotten involved in less extra-curicular things, but overall working in an art gallery has helped me make contacts and helped me decide what I want to do later on. Should I include my CV even though they don't require it? I'm feeling slightly insecure because a lot of other students I know have never had a job or gotten involved in anything at school. My cgpa is very good for art history, but 8.7 (out of 10 - canadian scale) overall. I guess I feel guilty for focusing so much on things other than school the last four years. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm feeling quite discouraged. Many thanks! Isadora
