  1. I recently applied for this grant. Anyone else out there? The deadline was only two weeks ago, so I don't imagine anyone's heard back yet. Let's keep each other posted, though! Feel free to give a run-down of the project you came up with, too!
  2. How do you think committees reviewing applications to their PhD program would perceive one of the applicants having had a book published through AK Press? My concern is that AK is not a university press, so I'm not sure if that would hurt my application in some way? I'm applying to Cultural Studies programs. Thanks!
  3. http://www.manifestoformediaeducation.co.uk/2011/02/antonio-lopez/ I just wanted to share a manifesto (of sorts) with you that has a lot to do with the disconnect between the humanities and environmentalism. Thoughts? Someone else made a post in this forum asking about rhetoric programs that have an environmental focus, so I'd also like to reiterate that question: do you know of any programs like this (MA or PhD), or maybe programs where the English/Rhetoric faculty have a significant interest in environmentalism? Thanks!
  4. Thank you both! I will probably go ahead and at least start the certificate program to see what's up. It can't hurt to see what opportunities come arise from it. Plus, I probably am a good audience for it, considering I haven't taught before and this will be my first semester grading/guest lecturing/etc. As Mac said, I can always discontinue participation in the program if I decide it's best. Thanks again!
  5. I've been interested in this as well, but have found it difficult to find any graduate humanities programs with a stated environmental focus. Usually it's the reverse (an ES degree with a humanities concentration), like this one: http://www.antiochne.edu/es/phd/humanities.cfm I don't feel sciency enough to be competitive at programs like this. Let me know if you find anything good, and I will do the same!
  6. So I'm just beginning work for my MA in English Research, and I'm considering doing a certificate program in addition to my degree--the Preparing Future Faculty program. Any thoughts on how helpful this may be, if at all, in strengthening my applications to PhD programs down the road? I'll have professors from different disciplines along the way, but it will be geared (somewhat) towards my specific field. I'm fairly certain I want to pursue a PhD at some point, but the certificate program also seems like a good addition to my resume in case I end up applying for jobs at community colleges in between degree programs (or as a career choice). I'm a fully funded GTA as well, but I want to take full advantage of the opportunities before me. I guess I'm wondering if my time and energy might be better spent on my degree program--producing better work, trying to present more and get published more, instead of putting in all that extra time for the certificate. Your insight would be much appreciated, thank you!
