SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants

Rush made a mistake... I'm in! Apparently they had two people with my last name. My eyes still burn from crying all day, but this is such a welcomed surprise! -

Rush only took five off the wait list last year. They don't rank the wait list. After April 15, they revisit the list and decide from there. No news is good news -

Wait listed at rush. 3.96 GPA, 164/161/5.5, research experience, SLPA experience. Not sure what else they could want from me. Completely lost it. No mention of a number or how large the wait list is. -

I agree they are late. I think those early rejections were done on a numbers-only basis and now they're examining all application materials. That is just a guess though. Their last day of classes is tomorrow, and next week is final exams. Week after that is spring break. I was really hoping for a decision today or tomorrow-- I figured they wouldn't be meeting during final exams or break, but maybe I'm wrong. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting on them. Hopefully we get good news soon! :-) -

yes!! I almost cried when I realized that the 3:23am email from "Rush University" was not a decision. I just need to know! -

WHY did I apply to the slowest schools? I would love to hear from just one. Fingers crossed for tomorrow or Friday. Also, congrats to everyone! All these acceptances are really exciting. For those who are still waiting, hang in there. -

Good morning and happy Monday to all! I am hopeful that we might see more decisions this week. :-) I know for both Rush and Northwestern, decisions rolled out at the end of this week last year--hopefully we are on a similar schedule. Good luck to all! -

It didn't work for me either. Pretty strange considering I received the invite. -

I too got the Facebook email from Rush. It's so hard--I really don't want to get my hopes up further. This had been my first choice since I visited in 2010. -
I find that taking some time for "me" helps keep me balanced -- I've been reading for pleasure, going out to the bars or parties with my friends at least once a week, and volunteering more. I am on spring break march 10-17, so I will be home a lot (with not much to do, because my boyfriend can't take off work). I'll probably try to work out a lot and work ahead in my classes. then one of my bffs is coming to town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with me! I'm guessing I will have heard from my top two choices by then, so we will either be celebrating (she already got into an Audiology program this fall) or drowning my sorrows in green beer. I hear you on the gradcafe effect though. It's been hard reading everything in the SLP thread, but I don't think I'm strong enough to pull myself away. lol

maybe they treat potential v. admitted students very differently, because I have a coworker who recently graduated from Northwestern, and she raves about it. -

Where did you get the info/do you have a more precise number? I'm just curious how many people are still in the game. -

OK, my boyfriend finally called me back with info on Rush--I went to their open house this December and took notes but left them at our apartment. Looks like last year the stats they gave us were 45-50 admits out of 250 applicants. This means 18-20% of students were admitted when they had 250 applicants apply, which means we would all be in (obviously not happening, because they need a wait list). Northwestern's applicant pool almost doubled this year (225 to 400), so Rush could have had (and probably had) ~425 applicants. (425)(.2) = 85. If 85 were asked to fill out a supplemental application, and 45-50 were admitted, there would be 35-40 on the wait list or rejected. Gah. -

I hear you. I want to get excited about both Northwestern and Rush, but in the end I know that the applicants we are up against are all amazing, so making it past the first cut just means we are now being compared to the best of the best. My professor seems to think that considering only 20% of applicants got letters today (if this is true) and the supplemental application seemed to be helpful for little more than a background check, the adcoms are probably hashing out the waitlist v. admit list right now. But this is all speculation--it really isn't helpful until we know what 20% actually comes down to. Also, ~40 students are enrolled in the entire program. Class sizes are only 22-24, but they admit 50-60. -

Called and couldn't get through to the person I needed to speak to. If anyone figures out how many applied to Rush, please let us know. -

all I know is they typically admit 50-60 for a 22-24 person class. We need to know how many students applied for the 20% to be meaningful. I think I may try to call at the end of the day--unless someone already has an answer? -

this whole process is bizarre. I would guess CSDCAS sent your app without updating the system. Rush sent out some rejections today so I am curious how many were asked to complete the supplemental application. -

Just got an email from Rush to submit a supplemental application. Anyone else get this? -

So disheartening. :-( We have to stay positive though! We've gotten the invite so that's something. I'm just terrified to see the stats of all those who were invited. -
She did. But she never got her funding back, and her relationship with her advisors remained strained.

my professor got pregnant with her first in the middle of her Ph.D. -- suddenly funding "disappeared" and she was outright told that serious Ph.D. students don't have babies.
