  1. I texted my family to forward them the information about the secret service, and they all about died laughing after all this worrying about having to walk 1.3 miles, mostly along Woodlawn, from my apartment to my building on campus. Not that safety isn't still a major concern, but it's still so funny in light of it all. I eventually started guessing it was silly to have even posted, thinking it was unlikely anyone who knew of the area would read the post, but this is fantastic to hear! I was all about those apartments off of Kimbark and S. Ridgewood (hardwoods, clawfoot tubs, and a park view? Yes please.), but I think I was placed on Madison Park after all my requests to be put in a "safe" building, and close to stores and transportation, etc. Thanks so much for writing! But I did accept, and I'm so glad to hear of someone else opting to move in there. It's so hard to know what you're looking at, solely going on things like Google Map's street view and a few quickly-snapped photos of the interior. Hope to see you around!
  2. Yes. Residential Services processes housing applications in order that they receive them. It's also determined by your requested move-in date. They pull all the applications for a move-in period and place applicants in order of when the application was received. I applied late April for a mid-August move-in date and received an offer the first week of June.
  3. I'm sure that it varies by school, but the Divinity School sent ID info out in late May which has really only been useful to create my UChicago email. Still waiting for the class schedule to be published, and the registration site won't even allow me to log on yet anyway. The CNET (ID) emails were actually attachments and were somewhat intricate, so I'm guessing your school also has to create individual attachments for each matriculating student. And I applied for grad housing in mid-April, so maybe you'll hear back soon. It's nice that the email also comes with pics of your specific apartment attached, so you know what you're getting yourself into.
  4. Congrats, everyone! Divinity A.M. in History of Religions here. Just received my housing offer this morning. Anyone else hear back who's renting through UChicago? I'm on E Madison Park, which I wished I'd made time to see while I was visiting in late March. God, it was cold, and everyone seemed to neglect to tell me about how the winds howl through negligible cracks in the windowsills at night. Chilling, but even more endearing than I anticipated.
  5. I've really been enjoying this thread, so thanks for all the insight, everyone. Anyone know anything about E Madison Park near UChicago? Was placed in grad housing this morning and have been Googling, but if anyone has anything to say about safety? I had my fingers crossed for a larger apartment around Kimbark, but I think I'm now in closer proximity to grocers, and right up against the Metra.
  6. Thanks for the report. Still reading submitted...
  7. Hey, that's seriously nice to hear. Thanks. I've been getting closer and closer to finalizing my decision but was holding out for Berkeley, just to make a knowledgeable decision as best I could. No SCS this year for me means that Education will not be the field I enter into, at least on the M.A. level, so this wasn't a decision I wanted to make without seeing all the cards on the table. Hearing this really concretizes the plans I've slowly been moving towards. I hope everyone here is in a good position to move forward if this does in fact mean rejection. On that note, I emailed with Zeus earlier this year, mentioning I was applying for the M.A. in SCS and he responded that they usually take in around 8% of their applicants, out of 100-110 a year. I think this clarifies that he was likely responding in regards to M.A.'s in the entire GSE, and not just in SCS. Maybe not very helpful to most people currently on the thread, but for future SCS applicants, I think it's important to know these statistics during such a long-winded waiting game. ...so, how's everyone feeling? This has been a truly wonderful thread, and being able to talk through the ups and downs of the UC app season has really helped me deal with what has officially been the longest waiting period I've ever experienced. Hope everyone is settled in with both confidence and excitement about wherever the next turn takes them as we wait it out a few last moments.
  8. ...and so it goes. I believe Spring Visit Day for accepted GSE students was scheduled for today, right?
  9. I want to say that POME decisions are a different beast altogether, as the Results Survey indicates those rejections (and earlier acceptances) having been received, while all of us stellar SCS hopefuls haven't heard a single word. But maybe that's just hope speaking...
  10. Thanks a thousand times over.
  11. I'm glad to know of someone else going! We're coming in from the Southeast and staying the weekend to enjoy the city. Wish hotels in East Hyde were easier to come by...
  12. I'm nearly certain (A.M. in History of Religions). Planning to visit during Prospective at the end of this month?
  13. If it's possible to exhaust verizon's new standard iPhone/data plan by simply refreshing inbox and spam folders, I'll be able to tell you at the end of this month. Absolute neurosis over here.
  14. Called UCB's GSE today and was connected with someone who was very polite. She explained that the decisions had just been "sent off" and that I should expect an email tomorrow or Thursday. Good luck again, fellow SCS hopefuls!
  15. Anyone planning to attend Prospective Students' Day? Plane tickets to O'Hare from the Southeast are looking pretty pricey...
  16. Apologies for the double post, but it looks like another day is going to come and go before hearing a word. Really disappointed. Beginning to assume (since hope has held out until now, for me) this means the worst. Anyone else holding out hope?
  17. I'm with you. Can I ask if the office gave you the impression (or explicitly said) that the SCS decisions were just being made (or finalized) late last week, as in no SCS applicants have been given decisions, unlike most applicants to other UCB GSE programs?
  18. Wow, so it really did take this long?! Anyone have a guess if they'll notify MA's too? Goodness, me! Good luck to everyone! We've really waited it out on this one.
  19. Got my "yes" from Chicago this morning! A good day.
  20. Thanks for chiming in, and congrats on your acceptances!
