  1. Thanks so much, FutureEd. And I have a hard time believing someone with offers from Columbia and UMich wouldn't be similarly competitive for a spot at UCB! I know you've got a real chance there! Are you an MA or doctoral applicant? What are your thoughts about the program's decisions, though? Think the accepteds have already heard back or there's still a wait? Like I said earlier, it's just so weird to me that there's such a considerably large percentage of acceptances not being reflected on the survey, if we really are looking at an 8% rate.
  2. Surely not, right? I saw on the results page that several others (though PhD's, assuming you're the MDiv post) received email rejections yesterday at the same time. I applied to the A.M. and checking the results page gave me an unexpected shock this morning. Didn't expect to hear anything for another week. Sorry to hear about your news, but congratulations on your acceptances! Those are some great programs!
  3. Thanks for asking. It's been a bittersweet season thus far. I've been rejected from my only other edu program (IUC's History of Ed), and from two uber-competitive interdisc PhD's (UCSC's HistCon and UMN's CSDS). The rejection didn't sting as bad as I thought it would. I have an MA spot at U. Surrey's Politics, and still waiting to hear from UCB's SCS and Chicago's Divinity. SCS really fits like a glove, and I flat-out worshipped the faculty at Chicago as an undergrad (and still admire the work they continue to carry out), so I'm staying hopeful! I wish I had time this winter to keep up with the mammoth GSE thread. Looks like everyone's done a fantastic job of keeping hopes high. Congratulations, by the way, on your acceptances! Where does UCB fit in your list?
  4. Seriously, FutureEd! I feel, though, that if SCS had completed announcing offers, we'd see a result or two on the survey. But nothing. When I emailed with a POI in early October, he mentioned an 8% acceptance rate. Still unsure if he was referring to the entire GSE or just SCS (or the MA in SCS) specifically. Then again, can't figure out how only one acceptance to the entire GSE was posted in 2011... Really would love to hear some news.
  5. Results Survey shows that some PhD applicants began to hear back last week, but no postings from those who've applied to the Master's programs. Anyone out there have any info? Congrats to all of those who've been admitted, good luck to those still waiting, and thank you to anyone with any information to share!
  6. Still waiting for SCS (MA) too!
  7. . Still waiting to hear back from SCS along with you guys. Hang in there... Congrats to all of you who are in the business of finalizing your plans for next fall!
  8. Hey everyone. I just found this thread and wanted to say good luck to everyone. I saw earlier this week that the first UCB GSE acceptance was posted in stats, so I imagine most of you are on pins and needles as well. I'm an MA applicant in Social & Cultural Studies.
  9. One acceptance has been posted (via email, Jan 30th). Anyone else received notification/still waiting/in possession of any insider knowledge?
  10. Congrats to litjust and hitomimay! Hitomimay, it's so wonderful that you've had the opportunity to interview this early, and that can never be a negative thing. So you're saying that you interviewed on a conference call? How intense! Good luck with the wait and best wishes for great news.
  11. Finally, the first word from any of my schools since app submission! Having emailed a professor earlier into the season to inquire about a suitable fit in a certain track, I was contacted by his secretary to schedule a time to call and talk. Not exactly if this is an interview or otherwise, but happy to have a little interaction. Scheduled to speak Monday afternoon--nerves are already a-buzzing. Does anyone know much of whether or not their programs are interviewing? Best of luck to all of you!
  12. Thanks. I'll cross my fingers for both of us! What are your research interests? I had to look up Hull, but she seems fantastic, too. And yes, Berkeley's been my dream school since undergrad. First, by way of Rhetoric/Butler, but I came across Leonardo this fall, and given the school's policy which allows graduate applicants to apply to only one of their programs per admissions season, I felt like the GSE was a better fit. Finding a suitable program for my project has been a little insane, but Berkeley seems really spot-on.
  13. Another easy holiday pleaser: the dump cake. I'd actually never heard of this until I was over at my boyfriend's parent's house a little earlier today, but I swear I've never tasted a more delicious and holiday appropriate dessert in my life. Additionally, it's super Southern (yes, we're speaking in terms of butter here) and easy (hence, the "dump"). Dump Cake 1 can of crushed pineapple 1 can blueberry pie filling 1 box yellow cake mix 1 1/4 sticks salted butter, sliced to the *entire* top (I'm told this is crucial.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit (325 degrees for glass baking dish). Lightly grease a large 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Drain the juice from the can of crushed pineapple and spread the entire contents over the bottom of the pan. Dump that blueberry pie filling (don't drain), making sure it covers the layer of pineapple beneath it. Ditto with that box of cake mix. That's right, don't be adding eggs or milk to make batter. Cover the entire top with the slices of butter. Slice up another half stick if necessary. Bake at 350 for an hour. Allow to set and cool a little before serving warm.
  14. Thanks, and to you as well! I was just about to bump this thread () for 2012 before I saw that you started this one, which is great for everyone. Zeus Leonardo would be a dream to work with. Really, really. And looks like admits might begin hearing late January/early Feb, according to survey stats?!
  15. Looking out her bedroom window and into the dark winter night, she realized that such a call was unlikely to come in the next few hours. She loosened her grip on her phone and set it aside on her bureau, and then became tickled with herself after realizing that today was the unofficial beginning to the university holiday season. Administrators and junior faculty alike were already abandoning their desks and office hours, heading for warmer climates--or bourbon.
  16. Nice to have company in the waiting game. Good luck, everyone! My work is in critical and historical studies of American public education systems, so I've applied to interdisciplinary programs as well, but my Edu's are: Berkeley: Social and Cultural Studies Illinois: Education Policy - History of Edu Vanderbilt: Public Policy WashU: Educational Policy
  17. Does anyone know if it is common practice for schools to notify recommenders when they offer acceptance to their recommendees? I imagine some current grads would have some knowledge regarding this. Thanks for any input.
  18. Yeah, maybe I should have qualified what I said. My work is interdisc, so my program list is somewhat unconventional. Nothing posted, though, from any of my programs, and I doubt there will be. Just the thought of some affirmation this time of year is so enviable.
  19. One December 1st, and another on the 2nd. SoP revisions have my head spinning. Glad to know I'm in good company. 2 of 3 LoR writers still don't have their letters in, and I resent the notification email yesterday. I met with mine well in advance, and I've checked in with them less than a month ago. Trying to sit on my hands so I don't pick up the phone and bug them about it tomorrow. I spent some time on the GradCafe results survey this morning, and I'm seeing where people have already received acceptance from submitting their apps in October. Stressed.
