  1. accepted to saic painting off the waitlist
  2. Also I think it's impossible to know what programs want your or are relevant. Go somewhere you can stand to live for a couple years (or would like to live, ideally). Check out other people's work. If you see stuff you love or stuff that scares you and inspires you, try that place!
  3. A couple things: learn to light your photos, as that'll kill you in a heart beat when they're looking at thousands of artists a day. Get rid of the quotes, everyone in art school reads as much as you and it is cringe inducing to see those quotes placed like that. If you really feel they need to be there, figure out a stronger way to incorporate them. Those drawings should be taking about 5 minutes a piece, so there should be a thousand of them on your website. The more the merrier, just create a separate section for them and post all of them forever (except the truly awful ones). Also about the quotes, maybe those are just for your tumblr and if so that is fine, just don't post them with your work.
  4. Time to take some risks kiddos. I'm going post-bac at SAIC and that is even more of a gamble.
  5. Got a letter in the mail on Wednesday. I'm actually out of town so I don't know what information is included just that I got in.
  6. It's nice to be able to ignore this website (still trying to reboot my creative drive).
  7. This is why when you ship things you insure them. This protects them not only in transit, but it also functions as a means of identifying an object's stated worth in court. If you're intending to apply again next year I'd recommend not pursuing any actions against them, but if you're going somewhere else you might consider legal action. Just because you are a potential student doesn't mean your stuff isn't worth anything or that they can just get away with destroying your property. He laughed it off because he knew that they are in the wrong and he's hoping you will laugh it off as well.
  8. Susan Kraut and Richard Hull do the interviews. Mine was fairly informal as well, just asked me to talk about the work and my motivations. I talked to Susan Kraut - gave her what was essentially a thesis statement (an elevator speech) then we talked about some of the works in particular. My interview went really well, she told me that she couldn't say that I was "in" because it's a committee decision and she's gotten in trouble for making statements about someone's chances of success in the past, but that she thought I had a really good chance. Committee meets either the first or second week of April and are sent out around April 20th. No idea if it's all snail mail.
  9. Thanks! Wanted to let you know, a friend of mine told me some things about Claremont (he's there, don't want to say in what capacity). He recommended I apply there but I somehow got it in my head that it is more expensive than other schools and passed (wish I hadn't now). He said the student's work can kind of be all over the place but that the facilities and faculty are fantastic and that the surrounding area is great as well and cheaper than LA. Just a little info to help you out maybe!
  10. Keep your chin up USC thing: I got the email as well. Don't take it personally guys it's just a symptom of applying to a large university.
  11. Interviewed with SAIC for the post-bac. Went very well, liked my answers and thought my work was strong. Won't know til late April if I'm accepted, but I am going to seriously consider it. I am starting to see some real benefits to a one year stint in a graduate environment.

    Piercings?

Jesus if we're worried about this in the art world what is happening to us? I myself have visible tattoos, my friend who teaches has visible tattoos and a mohawk. Do what you want. (Just don't get a swastika on your forehead)
