Is today going to be slow because it's Valentines? (Besides Yale, clearly.)

I was giggling yesterday about how silly THE Ohio State University sounds and then I remembered, I went to THE New School... erm, technically, "Eugene Lang College, THE New School for Liberal Arts." THE comma and everything. So silly, but I got use to saying it by my second year, I guess.

hey! cookies! I made smitten kitchen cake yesterday to distract myself! It took a decent amount of time. I highly recommend it to those of you who are relaxed by baking! It is delicious! http://smittenkitchen.com/2011/02/blood-orange-olive-oil-cake/ Good job! I totally forgot that this quote is in The Big Leibowski which just makes it too easy. I will have to come up with another. They will all be related to my sub-field. That's the clue.

guys, WHAT am i suppose to distract myself with during lulls at work if no one is hearing from anywhere?! smittenkitchen.com has been the main distraction, but it just makes me hungry!

I'm adding Jewish History because I'm sure I'm not alone! I study Israel so I fit in both Middle East and Jewish Hist. Great idea teachgrad!

Soooo, who heard from Stanford?
-
AMAZING SAFFERZ!
-
Telemaque, I'm also waiting for UCLA with baited breath...
-
Yeah, I'm also wondering that. Plus, are these generic emails or POI's contacting? So curious.
-
Congrats to all those getting good news today! & I'm sending positive vibes out to those who did not. We still have time!

Zooey Deschanel = irksome. But I'm still watching the show each week. Why?! Question - did anyone apply to Brandeis? I got an email from them a few days before the app was due that said what is pasted below.. I had started the app in September and then decided it wasn't priority. I thought this email was kind of strange - is this common? Thank you for starting your application to Brandeis University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Please note that the application deadline for the Ph.D. in History is January 15, 2012. As incentive to complete your application we are offering you an application fee waiver. Please follow the instructions here to receive your fee waiver.

hey, who saw their chicago status and where? sorry about the rejection i'm looking for mine and can't find anything...

I have no clue when to expect Rutgers. Would love to know who was asked to interview and for what field.. I'm Jewish/Middle East history. I talked extensively with Browns Jewish history faculty and they were excited by the idea of having a student doing Israeli history, but werent sure their new hires in middle east would be solidified... Anyway, it is what it is. Who was contacted by rutgers?
-
Re: brown. Me too. Sort of sad but also relieved that I don't have to consider leaving NYC for Providence (and my partner said that was the only place I applied that he wouldn't want to move to.) so it goes...

TMP - MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS! You rocked it this year!
-
Second the staying strong! There are sooo many places to hear back from still it'll be great. As far as what may come out this week, heard some rumors about Princeton and UCLA. Anyone heard anything else?
-
so this is actually a quiet day unless you applied to duke... wah-wah. sorry to those who got bad news it's still early!
-
i hope you are right! i just know i'm going to be glued to the results page and refreshing my application decision sites (the ones I can find, that is.)
-
Hehe hashem knows my heart wants to go to grad school... And you're right- relaxation is basically impossible right now. Yoga and Pilates are my saving grace!
-
Ugh I'm on here way before sunset... Relaxation fail! I'm soooo surprised people are hearing on weekends! I hope I come home to a letter, though none of the schools posted have been ones I applied to. Crossing fingers I hear from one this week!
-
Yeah, and may not be worth it for an expensive masters program AND for just a year. It's not like I can say hey partner, we're moving to london for many years, so get settled. It's just too much flux. Well, we'll see!
-
Congrats all those admitted! I just decided I need to keep the Jewish sabbath in my own way by not checking this board from sunset tonight to sunset tomorrow. This site is an amazing support system, but it also is making me more obsessed with this whole process than I should be, and I need to relax! Have a great day and for my fellow Jews out there, שבת שלום!
-
I think fairly high, because we'd be paying a ton of money. My issue with applying to this program is that I already live in NYC, and I'm worried about moving to London for a short period of time (like quitting my ongoing jobs, dealing with what my partner would do in england or if he'd stay here, etc). But it is an amazing program! I'll cross that bridge when I get to it

It's workable if you don't have any other options by mid-April, I guess?
