  1. Sorry if the tone of my post seemed negative - I really liked the post and was trying to say that I felt the same way. Ugh. Not a good week.
  2. I'm in the spasticlitotes fan club, too... but I don't want the great posts to end. Spasticlitotes, I hope you get into all of your programs, but will you continue to post about eating wine, drinking cupcakes, and washing it down with Crown and Coke ... while you just wanting to be validated. My feeling exactly!
  3. I hope you do hear good news from Miami tomorrow, Lolopixie!
  4. Thanks for letting me know, Lyoness. I think I will email to put my mind at ease.
  5. ughh. This is making me nervous. Has anyone else applied to the U of Washington? Has your online status been updated to show receipt of your mailed materials?
  6. Also, cost of living is a factor that programs may take into account when they are thinking about matching another school's offer.
  7. Hopefully, they're just trying to lure you in by telling you about new amenities before they accept you. Lactation room - this is the school for me!
  8. My predicted progression of emoticon usage over the next two months. (Ending with stealth emigration.)
  9. Congrats! It is great to see another regular GCer get accepted somewhere! Maybe we'll have a few days of good news for the non-regulars! That would be fun, too!
  10. I'm glad to hear you got an acceptance! And to a great program!
  11. My library? All books included... (I don't know if I could do it.)
  12. Congrats, TripWillis! Your waiting has worked out for you.
  13. Hilarious. LOL it did. We could definitely do Kafkaesque literature application process.
  14. Thanks for letting us know, Sparky!
  15. yeah - I really don't know... I'm just speculating. They may be interviewing all possible admits this year. I'm just going off past years - which look like some interviews, some directs admits. Did you read the thread from last year? Also inconclusive:)
  16. Do they do some interviews and some direct admits? I know people who have had interviews in the past, but it also seems that some people have been admitted without an interview in recent years. The people that I know who have had interviews focused on Medieval lit. Do you think they interview for that subfield?
  17. if I don't get in anywhere, I guess that will just make me an alcoholic. hmmm..... that's not as cool.
  18. Wow - that is fantastic news. Congrats!
  19. Great point to keep in mind!
  20. Okay - I now see there is a Comp Lit Dept separate from English. Before I was confused by the Comp Lit area of interest within the English Dept. Congrats again! You have some great options already!
  21. Congrats, Origin! Did you get a call from a POI? (I think that's how most notifications went out last year.)
  22. Congrats! Your area sounds really interesting to me!
  23. Last year, I was waitlisted at a school, and I asked for suggestions on how I could improve my application. The DGS responded that my application was strong, but I wasn't a great fit with any professor's interests. I had an idea that might have had something to do with it, but it was nice to hear it from the DGS (who seemed happy to respond). Hopefully, that information will prove beneficial in my results this year; I tried to pay special attention to fit in my selection of schools. I do remember other applicants posting about their requests for feedback last year. Some DGSs will give feedback, other won't. It seems like it's worth a try, especially if you felt like you were a strong applicant. I also remember someone posting that they received feedback that no applicants were accepted in their subfield last year (perhaps it was a modernist applying to Duke??). I think that would be helpful information, even if it's only to soothe the ego a bit.
