How are you coping with waiting?
Mistral replied to bdon19's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Great idea! Though I may bypass the next few weeks and dwell in late February. Hopefully, some program will find my application compelling by then. -

Then I'm in. I'm feeling desperate, and I'll take any guaranteed acceptance! Lolopixie Institution; Head Cold PhD; Accepted via GradCafe (NA/NA/NA NA); Feels great to be accepted! Is that pathetic??? -

No more applications! Can't do it - if I got rejected from a head cold that would be the straw that broke the camel's back. -
0% Confidence of Acceptance

Yeah - that was pretty early, jma310. I think most notifications were in February. I don't know how well my interests fit with the faculty research areas, but the program still looks great! -

Do you think UC Davis will notify earlier this year??? The deadline was moved from Dec. 15th last year to Dec. 1st this year. Yikes! I hope that doesn't bring the panic on! -
The deadline for UVA was moved up this year; last year it was Jan. 1 (I believe) and this year it was Dec. 15. That may or may not affect their timeline...

I have been waiting to submit my last application so that I could delay being in limbo. LSU's deadline is Jan. 25 - lolopixie, have you submitted? Still applying seems better than just waiting to me. Also, I thought that I might work on my SoP and Writing Sample a bit more... but that seems painful (and futile) at this point. Anyway, it is January 20th - we are getting close to the deluge of notifications. I wonder what the world will look like when we emerge in April! -
Interviews....

Any Chapel Hill-ers?
Mistral replied to 0000000000AAA's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I think they notify fellowship nominees in late January and other admits a bit later... but I'm not 100% sure. -

Yeah - I think Duke Lit. does interviews, but I don't think the English Dept. does them. (I'm not sure about the Eng. Dept, though.) -
One more here !

I am sending mine tomorrow. Then I have three more apps to go... Good luck to you, too!
-
I think you'll be fine with that, Timshel. I looked at mine again, and my gpa after my first 60 credits is the same as my last 60 credits (which is how I calculated it before), so I think I'll be okay. Oh, and I decided to send my 19 pg. paper, too.
-
hmm... I think I calculated the last 60 graded credits instead of the "course work taken after the term in which you earned 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours." My calculation may be slightly off... It sounds like your calculation of jr./sr. grades is probably correct, Venti White Choc. Mocha.
-
I calculated my gpa for my last 60 undergraduate, graded credits. I wasn't exactly sure what to do either, but that was my interpretation. The department cover sheet asks for your undergrad and graduate GPAs, so you can give them your grad gpa there.
-
I'm not sure how to interpret the UF writing sample page length, either. I could send a 16 pg. paper, but I like my 19 pg. version of the paper better.

Death of an Application?
Mistral replied to cquin's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
A late letter probably won't be a problem at most schools. (Even a few weeks late - especially since you let them know.) No letter might be a problem, but it sounds like he will actually submit a letter at some point. That would make me very anxious and frustrated, too. I hope he sends it for you soon. Do you have someone else who would be sympathetic of your last-minute dilemma and willing to write a strong letter? -
DONE. Ugh. Anyone else done?
Mistral replied to darjeelingtea16's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
You're right, of course. I just need to keep telling myself. That. -

Yep - my psych. professor friend calls me a masochist. The morning after is a terrible experience... but I have a few more to submit in January. I'm worried that my early December writing samples weren't polished... and that my fit paragraphs weren't direct enough.... -
UT deadline extention - Dec 15th
Mistral replied to HaruNoKaze's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
My status says In Review, too. I don't know what the SoP length requirement was before, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was changed... -
UT deadline extention - Dec 15th
Mistral replied to HaruNoKaze's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Maybe it is because applicants have to wait for an email to upload documents (which may come 24-48 hours after the application is submitted). It seems like this might be a new online system for them? Since I just need to upload the personal statement and writing sample, I will probably do it tomorrow night... after my other Dec. 15 apps are in. I've never heard of schools extending deadlines, though. -

So, the UT application needs to be submitted tomorrow, but other documents can be uploaded later? What is the deadline for the other documents? Has anyone else taken a look at the "Attention Graduate Program Applicants" on the English admissions webpage? -
Agreed! Especially for schools that don't have a place on the online application to upload a CV. Even when they do, though, it seems much more effective when I can explain how my history contributes to my current interests in a narrative.

I feel like I should be working on my app since I have two whole hours left, but I am worried that I might just make errors if I try to revise anymore ... since my brain is fried and my eyes are bleeding. (Sorry for that image ) Good luck!
