  1. I'll be starting the PhD program in Political Science this Fall. My wife and I made the move to Waco in the past week. Other than the heat, we've found the city to be great so far. The traffic is nothing compared to the city of my last program. The people are incredibly nice. You are correct that grad school is very different from undergrad. Moreover, each graduate program is very different from others. This Fall, I will only have three classes (at 3 units each). In law school, it was nothing to have six classes each semester. For me, there will be loads of reading and some sort of work as a Teaching Assistant. I have no idea what you should expect in your department. I wish you the best of luck!
  2. I was notified of admission on April 3. I meant to email Dr. Sobek on Friday to let him know that I had accepted another offer, but it slipped my mind. He contacted me this morning, and I let him know then. I, too, found them to be quite behind. I would have given LSU serious consideration (I'm a huge fan of Prof. Stoner) had I been admitted in time to visit before the decision deadline. You can try contacting them, but I didn't have much luck by phone or email. Good luck. I hope you hear good news soon!
  3. Evidently, they also admit a number of students without any support. LOL... not.
  4. Yep. Maybe they are just adding new names to the bottom of the waitlist. But who really knows?
  5. I'm thinking I'll name my kid Alexis. Who cares what my wife thinks? Oh, and the second kid will be Burke.
  6. I've got to say I agree to a large extent. I'd compare the early presidents to the most recent presidents as an example, but the point would really be weakened by some terrible leaders in the middle of American history. In law school, people are almost willing to throw stones at you for expressing disagreement with the "One Man, One Vote" line of cases. Online, the worst you guys can do to me is give me negative reputation points. EDIT: I'm sitting in a rather boring class right now, so I figure some sort of polemical discussion will provide much-needed entertainment.
  7. There's nothing silly about considering weather! After living in Southern CA for a few years, I get chilly when it dips below 60 degrees. I'm such a pansy now. 1. Living out here has also made me think more about traffic and public transit. 2. For some religious people, the strength of the church in a particular area might be of concern.
  8. I think it's $11.5k unless you have 30+ hours of graduate credit, in which case it's $13k. I'm hoping to hear some details soon.
  9. Perfect. I'm sending it now.
  10. Make sure to use at least three different fonts and get your secretary send it.
  11. Silly me... I meant to say that it *can* take forever. I'm sure that most of you could figure that out.
  12. I'm pretty sure that GTown only funds 6-8. B/c Deneen resigned, I'm pulling my app. (Not that they will care in the least)
  13. I'd also recommend driving. Parts of the drive are quite beautiful, but it can't take forever due to traffic. I hope you enjoy your trip!
  14. I'm in complete agreement. I saw a similar trend to this when I was applying for law school four years ago. There were people with half a dozen or more acceptances who would throw a fit anytime someone raised the issue of declining offers. Maybe the person asking will benefit if the other turns down an offer. Probably not. Either way, those of us with acceptances will have to make a tough decision sooner or later. While I don't intend to rush into the decision, for my own sanity, I'd prefer to make the decision sooner rather than later. If that helps other people get their first acceptance, all the better.
  15. Exactly! What is up w/ that place? I grew up outside of Nashville, and I will forever root for the team, but seriously...
