  1. There's a rejection posted in the results forum... what's the scoop?
  2. An article that made me think of this thread: http://blogs.wsj.com/juggle/2012/02/23/study-love-hurts-more-than-work/?mod=e2tw
  3. Thanks, Minerva, for the insight!
  4. Chuck, thanks. Do you think I should just inquire about the status of my application or write a full-on "I really think we're a great match and I would go there in a heartbeat" letter?
  5. Chuck: thanks... not waiting on Madison though. I was considering writing an email detailing how much I want to be at the school...
  6. Do you think it's a good idea to call? I am waiting, too...
  7. @sciencegirl: Sales and other taxes in Cali are a lot higher than in most areas. Also, living in Palo Alto will require you to own a car (whereas living in Berkeley will not)... and a bike if you're trying to save money on non-rainy days. Gas prices in Cali are ~3.80$ per gallon right now and will surely increase by summer. They have been at 4$ most of the year. My SO did not get grad housing at Stanford and now pays ~1000$ for a room in a house with a huge utility bill, because most housing isn't built for cold weather... He has to drive to the grocery store... and to campus on rainy days. Anyway, all I am trying to say is that it does add up. But I still think Stanford is offering a competitive package to recruit top picks. Also, having said all that... when I was moving to the Bay Area, everyone warned me about how expensive it is, but I am living a lot more cheaply than I ever did on the East Coast.
  8. second lovenhaight! i only applied to 2 programs. also because i love the bay area and am not ready to leave it. my SO is here, my friends... luckily, two schools here are amazing and fit my interests
  9. @ sciencegirl: no word... should i bite the bullet and call them to check in? they definitely have my correct email...
  10. Does anyone want to claim today's Stanford acceptance?
  11. I contacted a POI at Berkeley, because they posted the suggestion NOT to do that after I did it. I felt a bit sheepish, but my main goal was to learn more about the program and working with the professor from a student. I asked the POI to suggest some current students I could speak with. I ended up speaking to a student and thought it was an extremely valuable experience. I knew a lot more about the program.
  12. Yes... and has anyone has anyone heard anything from Demography-Sociology?
  13. A bit curious...people who haven't heard yay/nay yet: what are your interests?
  14. @sciencegirl: thanks @allhandsonthebadone: just waiting on the bad news myself....
  15. rejections for stanford are being posted. haven't received mine yet... what does this mean?
  16. @sciencegirl ... thanks for the info! what are your research interests?
  17. Was it a personal email? What are your stats, accepted ones?
  18. It's interesting. It doesn't seem like that many people on this board applied to Stanford this year. They sent out acceptances first weekend of February the past few years. Definitely crunch time now... Did anyone else apply? Any news?
  19. run a lot clean/ de-clutter (come across mailed GRE scores in the process and freak out) read russian novel (will keep you busy for a loooong time) make home made chai cook/bake/invite friend over and NOT talk about grad school i made plans for this entire week every night (except tonight) so i won't have to think about this!
