Anyone can tell me anything about Columbia College Chicago?
LovelyPainter replied to creamypencil's topic in Visual
Yes, It's an Accredited University. That's ridic but I've heard Chicago people say that regarding Cal Arts. ("never heard of it") Again subjective to the area. ect. I'd tell anyone going into FILM to head there in a heartbeat. They're pouring millions+ into state of the art facilities (google for info ect.) and pretty much kill the competition in that area....have a branch film school in LA too. Also a few big names have come out of the music department/engineering. -

*Private liberal arts school *Nice rep inside IL but you'll have to CONSTANTLY explain the "where, what, huh's" to people outside of Chicago. "What school is that?? Where??" *It is what you make it, like any other school. You'll have to dig for resources. *If you plan to ever work outside of your discipline and into more business/marketing/finance type areas find a school with a better rep (see point 2). Even though it has tons of other majors it is heavily dominated by the FILM department and trickles down to other arts related departments. *Some of the most creative people I've met have come from Columbia but because of a lack of drive+department support/promotion of exhibits ect......are the most creative people I know selling shoes. Harsh but that can be ANY school. *Chicago is AMAZING! Love that city and TONS of amazing opportunities to showcase. My two cents from friends+I'm a former Chicagoan. woop woop! -

You've got nothing to loose! Why not? The worst they can do is say no and at this point i'm sure they have a pre-done draft so it would be easy to submit a few more. Doooo it! I narrowed my list down to 9 but am thinking about throwing in two+ more... sitting on it for a few weeks. (feb deadlines) we'll see if the panic makes me throw out a few more. ha! -
Really? One week after the deadline? That would be amazing....From looking at posts from Last years I'd give it two more weeks....hang tight! I'm a hopin and wishin too

Whaaaat?!! 35 bucks?! Good Lord! Schools must be able to set the app prices then. Interesting. I thought it was just a standard 10. I can't even think about all the money I've spent on apps without giving myself a stomach ache. Cheers to being 90% done with only a few Feb deadlines to meet! -

I'm in love with Slideroom even though I think the 10buck app fee must be QUITE the money sucker maker but after having to do tedious CD+paper apps...slideroom anyday. -

well we can't give you the motivation... that said the obvious answer is.... A couple emails, phone calls and a resend regardless of the allotted deadline. Go, go, go! -
Good Lord....option B+take a deep breath. I guarantee if you were to do option A or C the reaction would be: which is also my reaction to this post. All joking aside. AGAIN stellar work first all the rest is just icing on the cake. Now for the love of God please go eat something and go to sleep

starling, on 28 December 2011 - 03:47 PM, said: I feel like I screwed up- for some reason I didn't think it was a big deal if I checked 'do not waive my rights' on the recommendation section.... what do you guys think I agree with Susan+Roberto...it's kind of a given that you are suppose to waive your rights. I even had one of my mentors tell me that ..."oh and make sure" bit when I asked him to write a rec. But I wouldn't sweat it. They will probably just contact your recommenders.... Again at the end of the day if your work is stellar, the rest is just icing on the cake. -

@Roberto Ugh how stressful! The most "ugh" time consuming so far for me has been all the different portfolio upload systems used. It took me much longer than I'd like to admit to get through all the randomly specific requirements of different Uni.s -

Goodness what a crazy month. Bit chaotic managing exhibits+applications+holidays. Hope everyone got to stuff themselves silly. I'm officially calling myself plump. Five applications in and six more to go... dun dun dunnnnn -

I'm applying to CSULB's program as part of my now 11 school long list. I'm a Cali girl and would love nothing more than to stay westcoast! -
Pretty basic question that doesn't need seeing someones work to answer No worries. A solid portfolio doesn't have less than 15 pieces/images is what I was told by a professor... But that said I'd argue 10 amazing pieces of work trumps adding additional "so-so" work any day. My two cents...

@Caus I know right? I feel as if it is all SO subjective that it becomes like the lottery. Feeling better after at least requesting all my recs and sending for all transcripts. It is a bit overwhelming applying to so many schools. App fees are going to physical hurt, top ramen for the next month hurt. haha Was chatting with a friend today (also painter) and we were debating whether schools put more weight on recommendations vs exhibits/gallery placements. Thoughts? My thought was that exhibits would hold more weight than recs as long as the recs weren't a nightmare. -

Ah, my people! So this is where the meltdowns occur. Brilliant! Already read through most of last years posts regarding the MFA process. Already wondering if I should apply to more schools after reading through that blood bath. yikes. Applying to 8 schools. Also micro managing with so many schools and am hoping to have at least two apps done by Thanksgiving as the whole hoping I could use the same MFA statement for all is def not happening.
