MsBOOM got a reaction from sogdia in so, which are the "most competitive" programs?
I don't think it's so much as them wanting to be on the list as it is you just being an obnoxious twat. I'm sorry, but somebody had to say it.

I don't want my (future) school to be on that list. Not until I'm in, anyway. LESS COMPETITION, NAAAH MEAN?
(Yes, yes I am greedy like that).

No one's trying to get their school on "the list."

Thank you, Body Politics. I'm not sure where this whole "everybody wants their school to be on the list" idea comes from. I am not even at a school (and my alma mater is certainly nowhere near the top 25), so I could care less about that sort of thing. The question can be considered on its own merits, based on objective standards.

Yeah, but he only likes the very top, most competitive turtles.

ok, I'm new here, but it seems like someone doesn't play well with others. Also, upvoting your own post?
I think both sides have a point. GRE scores can be used to weed through large pools of applicants and the TT programs do have fairly rigorous standards for acceptance. But, there are always exceptions and an otherwise excellent applicant won't be rejected for less excellent GRE scores. Everyone gets one less than perfect part of the application. if the rest is in good shape, then your GRE won't stop you.

And with this, you finish proving you don't know anything about PhD programs in religious studies.
You're embarrassing yourself. Just stop.

I come bearing levity!

But really, how about we all come back to this thread in a couple months and list our GRE scores, acceptances, (mostly) denials, and waitlists.

Actually, great point. In retrospect, the GRE scores are pretty darn good for an international applicant.

Anybody already having anxiety over being accepted/rejected? I just can't seem to shake the anxiety!

As Sarah mentioned, it really depends on if you're applying for a masters or PhD. I would suggest applying for a range of masters programs. That will give you a chance to show a high(er) GPA when you apply for doctoral work. Even for the MA SOP, focus on your unique background, language fluency (which will be well above the average student here in your proposed field, I'm sure), and your specific research experience. This will help your chances of acceptance at the big name MA programs substantially. As Sarah said, you should apply to some of the bigger div schools, like HDS. I remember there was a fella on here a couple years ago with around a 2.5 UG GPA that got into HDS (MTS), though applying for an MDiv degree is also not a bad idea (more acceptances, more courses). Also, your GRE scores for an international applicant are actually pretty good (masters). You may consider retaking for the hell of it, but I wouldn't be too concerned at this point (again, for masters).
