  1. intlrns, Hi, one on hand- as a Fletcher student, you can cross register at HKS on the other, 38K over two years, if I had this exact problem, as an Asian international student, I would pay to go to HKS. The Harvard name means way more in Asia and it is worth it (in my opinion and experience).
  2. Did you get the email first? I haven't received the email and I am on apply yourself and don't see news on my MIA app
  3. Um, I took it in Beijing. I think there were 20 of us and that is MPA and MPPs together (different tests but same test venue). Also, they'd been testing/interv iewing people since Thursday (I took it Sunday) and were going to continue until Tuesday.
  4. Oh, I just got an email. It's seems that Bosworth and Board of Overseers are the same thing. They probably just renamed it Bosworth because Dean Bosworth is stepping down soon.
  5. Can others post what their letters say? Yes, I have a pretty specific plan= mine is access to finance plus regional economic integration for economic development in the ASEAN WWS doesn't specialize on any of those but I think it is just one of a few form letters that they have.
  6. Fair question: it seems like they copy and pasted the second and third paragraphs- the font is different. What does yours say? The number of admission offers available at Princeton for entering graduate students is extremely limited and we cannot offer admission to all applicants who are well-qualified. Indeed, many departments consistently have applicants who would be admitted without hesitation if the additional resources were available. Our decisions take into account not only the applicants’ merits, but also the suitability of the department’s programs to the candidates’ expressed interests. Our goal is to achieve a sound match between the strengths of our programs and the interests of the relatively small number of outstanding students that can be accommodated. I wish you success in your plans for graduate study and thank you for considering Princeton University. Sincerely, William B. 7. Did not get in
  8. Cool, I'm not sure what it entails though other than the funds. Board of Overseers provides the scholars with special access to the overseers (like the trustees of Fletcher) which is great networking
  9. HI, I was rejected by HKS and accepted to Fletcher. I am also focused on international trade. My specific focus is using regionalization as a method for economic development. Pardon my ignorance by why do you think HKS is not a good fit for international trade? Is it because it is more focused on domestic policy (I've heard that) but they have lots of international students who are unlikely all focused on US-Country X relations, right?
  10. Does anyone have experience/advice on which schools they've successfully negotiated with and which won't budge at all
  11. Hi, champanK Yes, study really hard. As you know calculators are not allowed. The numbers themselves aren't big but really need to know the tricks or formula or you can't do them. Singapore Math is hard. The school says it is based on Grade 8 Math and they study trigonometry in grade 8 (no trig in the test though) I work in China and had my test and interview on March 10. They said they'd been interviewing and testing people since Thursday and would go on until Tuesday. They do the tests and then you can a long lunch break until your interview unless you are unlucky enough to get the early interview slots which start immediately after Math test. The interview itself is kind of easy.
  12. I suggest doing a masters in a lower ranked school first and then do really well, you can do a mid-career or second masters are a more elite school later hang in there!
  13. I was offered $28K per year. it's the Bosworth Scholarship Jenniferpetersmith- is it the Board of Overseers scholarship?
  14. Hi, i took the Math and Verbal diagnostic exams yesterday and had my interview. I think I got half of the Math questions wrong. I read a post here saying it was Algebra and below but they must have changed it because mine included differentiation, combinations, geometry, variance, etc. I went into cold. I think I did well on my interview but I'll need my GRE Math score (which was pretty good) to cancel out my awful diagnostic score otherwise, I am toast.
  15. I majored in Finance, Chinese and Political Science.
  16. I don't think we'll hear about funding before we have to make a decision on April 15th. This is from Indhika of the admissions office. Hi XX, I will be sending highlights from Admitted Student Day after March 20th so will keep you updated on all that is covered. We generally know of leftover funds before mid May but sometimes funds become available in the summer. Question: I am still confused. Is the MGHD part of the School of Foreign Services or the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences? The acceptance letter does not mention SFS anywhere but the says Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Also, when you submit transcripts, the address provided is GSAS.
  17. Is anyone thrilled by the fact that the scholarship applications are done? I was proofreading my scholarship applications for HKS one hour before the deadline. The previous week, I did the SIPA scholarship application. I am so relieved that's done. I still have one more external scholarship application but that, thankfully, allows me to cut and paste my admissions essay
  18. Wow, I am surprised that they sent it to someone who they didn't accept Pinkman. Don't worry, it's not a downer. I really was just curious to know if they send it to everyone... Pinkman- what email to apply for aid? Whoa, I don't think I got that and I don't really care what that means but I want to apply for aid! DaniCM- mid-march?! Yes! Hopefully we won't have to wait until March 31st! Mine does not have the contact info of anyone. They clipped an admissions office business card to it. i did get an earlier email from someone else in the office (she knows me because I called her last time I applied) which I replied to. Rhodeislander- I work for an NGO. I already told them that I am resigning in April. Wanderlust22- Have you decided if you are going to Fletcher or Georgetown?
  19. You too Ariana! I'll PM you closer to the date to let you know what particular things I am curious about, is that okay?
  20. I work in Beijing so US mail takes a while to get to me. I found a large envelope from Fletcher School postmarked Feb 20 on my desk today. Inside was a handwritten note and a copy of Fletcher News magazine. Dear XX, Thank you for applying to the Fletcher School! We really enjoyed reading your application. While you wait for your decision, please enjoy this copy of Fletcher News. Sincerely, The Fletcher Admissions Team Did you guys receive this too? I'm a re-applicant so the Fletcher admissions office knows me pretty well. I've also been to visit twice (around the first time I applied). I didn't receive something like this before so I am curious if everyone else got it too. I know decisions are not due yet but when I saw the large packet, I admit, I was pretty excited.
  21. Georgetown sends it with the acceptance email they sent out yesterday. If it doesn't list anything, it means the student did not qualify for funding from the first round but they say you can still get funding later (i.e. if some people don't accept their admissions offer and money is freed up). This is for the MGHD program only. I checked with the admissions office because my email didn't mention anything about funding.
  22. No, I wont be attending mainly because I am in Beijing but also because the likelihood of me attending Georgetown without scholarship funding is very very small. It's a pity, the GHD program is so new and I am very curious to know what admitted students day will be like
  23. Hi all I was admitted too but then got this when I asked why some email had scholarship info and some didn't. Disappointing news! Dear x, We have a limited number of scholarships and regret that we cannot offer more scholarships to all our admitted students. If you did not receive a scholarship offer in the initial admissions round there is still the possibility that funds may become available later. The official letter from the Graduate School will be available electronically through your ApplyYourself account. Warmly, Indhika
  24. What's average? To be honest, I think that work experience is that main thing that they look for but that's just my gut feeling. I think they give more to people who will enhance their overall profile. Could be totally wrong
