it's between here and two uk universities now. ... but i've been hoping for Cornell for way too long... & uk universities don't offer nearly as much funding... too many elipses.
-
That IS a false alarm and it IS why you ought to abhor this process.
-
Ha [snort!] G_d bless you! I say cross your fingers, hope & go for it. After all, you dove head first into the graduate phd application process. Why not ante up the stakes by going for him too? Tempt the fates. Make them want to shock you with a "PhD + Man of Dreams" package. You (& we, the thegradcafe forum readers) deserve a happy ending right about now.
-
At first I too thought, "Why bother withdrawing?" but, after reading your reason, I wholey understand & commend you on it. Good going and congratulations on the acceptances from your top choices.

I cannot agree with you more. In the beginning I too was fairly [not off the walls but remotely] enthusiastic about this whole thing. now? well although I can't rule out doing this again for next graduate application season... I certainly am NOT looking forward to it. Best to you dear.

Dontuse [hugs] Tegs I may be racking these up. It's the 2nd one this week.

longer wait = rejection

whoa. Very good point there dinali.

Honestly?... I wouldn't think anything of it. It clearly says hope to get back to you with good news. To me this sounds parallel to "I'm going to get back to you. I hope the news I'll deliver is good." The only part that I would be happy about is the personalization. (in the assumption that not only did the author indeed read your note but that the message returned to you indicates proof that your note was read... & not merely skimmed) Personal attention is ALWAYS good. Judgement: go about your business. The email you recieved reveals no insight to your case. I'm not saying this to be mean. It's simply my honest opinion.

I'll pay you to dream me up a particular acceptance seahistory. I'm sure many of us would help launch this business of yours!

Optimism v. Pessimism: "Rejected Until Proven Accepted"
Dontuse replied to OnceAndFutureGrad's topic in Waiting it Out
I have to confirm this... It is in fact cruel. -
no one went to that bowling event (& that was to be friday night) it was the bar. but let us change the subject as this thread isn't about how me met.

did you apply to a few or a lot llcooln6? i'm realizing more & more how much of a pitiless numbers game this is.
-
i'm not alone... on my interviews i got intensly wonderful compliments & comments from people [some of which i later found out were adcoms] like 'you have nothing to worry about.' now i feel so cruely duped. 4 u.s. interviews & no word from any of them. nothing. [uk programs? official notice + unofficial notes too] i'd like not to think they [u.s.] were leading me on. i can't think that. however, given the present situation... my only comfort is that i'm not alone. sadly enough i wish this on no one's plate.

it wasn't my gpa [or at least i don't think it's a terrible one to be bargaining with] it was probably my gre scores. i'll be honest enough to admit that i took them three times. the final ones were 'good enough' & those are the ones i used for my applications. still, my 'good enough' scores come from never wanting to take that damned test again. i recognize how similar to the sat's there were [i did pretty well on my hs sat's actually] but continually bombed my gre's. [grooooooooooan] if i have to apply again next year for grad school im simply going to work on every OTHER part of my application as the my gre ability is likely 'all downhill from here on in.'

Save yourself the trouble of fretting & simply call them to clarify.

That, my dear nandelle, was hilarious.

i can't clap loudly enough...

me? well i used to be: [*] confident [i doubt when i answer 2 to "what is 1+1?"] [*] beautiful [shower versus refresh my email. guess who wins this battle?] [*] scheduled [my life is on HOLD until i know all the decisions. it's a stalemate & im dying] [*] fun [ive turned into a nervous wreck] [*] gregarious [i won't talk about any of my acceptances/rejections with anyone in person. no one in my actual life knows im applying. seriously] [*] easygoing [why won't this flipping page F5 faster?!?!?!?!?! even the computer is rejecting my advances] & [*] a good person [i'm not sure i qualify as a 'person' right now] i swear... i've never been so aware of the date in my life... never... as in Not Ever. who were you before this application season?
-
[grin] Period.

we may not remember each other but i'm sure we met. i understand that we were kept fairly seperate during the weekend but i made an effort to infiltrate bmcb during the last bar social gathering on saturday night. once there [& over loud music] i met quite a few [as in a LOT] of bmcb applicants. so unless you skipped out on it... anyway, thanks for the encouragement. however it's probably wise to adopt the "aggressive pessimism" view so many others have mentioned.

roll call for those losing the application battle
Dontuse replied to frankdux's topic in Waiting it Out
1. number of years you've applied: 1st 2. number of schools applied to: 9 3. number of rejections so far: 2 but could be 4 [nyu has never said anything; just found out i'm probably, most likely rejected from my top since i chatted with someone who i interviewed with [different program/same weekend] & that person got accepted ages ago... [about to cry]] 4. what do you think went wrong? [shrug] couldn't be lack of enthusiasm. i LOVE what i do. 5. will you apply next year? honestly... right now i don't know at all. im taking this worse than i thought. 6. if yes, how will you improve your app? if no, why not?: i was accepted elsewhere for a masters. perhaps after that id reapply. 7. what will you do in your off year/the rest of your life? attend the program that wants me. funding will be a HUGE issue now however. -
Wow. Well I guess we must've met. Hi, I'm the one who apparantly didn't get in... [sorry for the downer]

interviewed 26-28 february. congratulations on your acceptance to BMCB.
