Any news for direct applicants in the State side?
-
I perused the thread from last year and found that the cutoff for those awarded was 12.1. Everyone who scored at or above this was awarded and those who were close were waitlisted. This number was obtained my some of the forum members directly emailing sshrc about it. The cutoff is probably different for this year.

Gonna be a long week down here in the States...
-
Just out of curiosity, question for people who've won the award before: What comes in the mail?
-
Totally agree. Direct applicants like me who are applying from the State side or other countries have to wait longer for the mail to arrive....UGH
-
Technically, it's a violation of SSHRC's non-disclosure policy until all the results are sent out or they are officially given a "go ahead."
-
Those are the results! Ugh, This is going to be an agonizing weekend, especially for us direct applicants who'll likely get the letters next week
-
Been trying to focus on other things but not helping obviously.
-
From what I have seen happen last year, the Twitter post was sent out after they had started mailing out the results. So it is possible that mails might be going out even before we know it.
-
I'm predicting that the letters will be sent out on Friday.
-
If they happen to be on a similar schedule this year, that would mean the letters would be sent out next week. Nerves!
-
Hope you are wrong as well But yeah, mid April would mean that decisions would be finalized next week...hard to believe.
-
It is the month of April! Last year there was an unexpected delay. Hopefully they are on schedule this year and will let us know sooner than later.
-
I'm also very curious of this. Is there a lower chance for direct applicants to be awarded?
-
I guess I'm answering my own question Letter arrived today, forwarded to the national competition. I'm located in Mid-Atlantic.
-
Anyone in the States get their letter yet?
-
Thanks Genderboi!
-
Agreed...hope it'll arrive this week.
-
Did any of you direct applicants get the letter for moving onto the national competition? I got mine around this time last year and was wondering if they have been trickling in.

Hi yes. I have been admitted in multiple regions with funding and NYC or other major cities with high cost of living will offer you more money. What seems like more money isn't really what it is though. The amount of funding depends on the cost of living. You might receive 10k to attend a Mid-west school but the region will have much less cost of living so it should still cover those expenses relatively speaking. This is of course, unless you are receiving additional merit scholarships on top of the funding.

Let the great wait, begin.

As a fellow Canadian studying abroad in the U.S., I share your pain in the money issues. Honestly, even with a fully funded program, it's going to be very difficult making ends meet financially. I highly suggest that you take the time to explore some scholarships you can apply to. If you do not have a U.S. citizenship, you are also going to run into various unforeseen costs (e.g., internship credits, externship credits) that international students face inevitably.

Just received my email acknowledging receipt of my application for direct applicants.

Alright, I'm going to start this thread for this year seeing as nobody has made one yet. I dropped off my SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship direct application at the USPS today. Hopefully I can put it out of my mind until April!
-
Can anyone help? I still have not received my letter here in the Eastcoast of US. I think it may have been lost. I contacted SSHRC already but it's been a slow process in getting their response. I read that the deadline to take up the award is May first and it is already May first and I don't even know my results yet. If by chance I am awarded a fellowship, is this going to be a problem? Has anyone had a similar issue?
