When I was accepted into my Master's program a few years ago, my professor told me personally when I bumped into her in the department office. I'm sure a lot of this type of thing is happening, and then acceptees post their admit on the forum. Also, don't assume that departments make all decisions at the same time. It's not necessarily a synchronized process. Good point with the fellowship discrepancy.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "The Skulls" and its sequels. Yale, New Haven! "The PIta Pit" and all that. And the the theme of 'secret society' really captures the conspiracy of elitism surrounding the ivy league. That's a good film to watch when you get rejected to feel better about being an honest normal person. Elsewhere, I like "The Sure Thing" John Cusack & campus living!!!

Location has nothing to do with the program. It's irrelevant, inappropriate, and makes it seem as if you're more interested in the location than the actual program. If sure you can find more compelling reasons why you want to attend that school

Last year, I got rejected from all 11 PhD programs to which I applied. Although I suspect you may not be fully aware to what extent your flippancy actually contributes to your awesomeness Making gravely significant life-decisions brusquely and arbitrarily is a fine and underrated art, I think That's pretty much how I decided to become a vegetarian, and years later, to end my capricious stint in vegetarianism; viz, "Hmm.. maybe being vegetarian would be cool" and "Hmm.. perhaps now is a good time for a filet mignon," respectively. In any case, shine on you crazy diamond. I'm sure you'll do well. PS- I'm from Washington DC, and I can tell you that you made a good choice-- "American" is *such* the bottom-rung, that no one around here even considers it. I would try to get in one of them if the Philosophy departments weren't all super-ultra analytic.
