  1. Okay, now I understand. I looked at my application summary for both this year (I was admitted) and last year (I was rejected) and the same student number is listed in both. I have a vague memory of noticing the student # last year... When I go onto the web service, there is a box that says 'Registration Fall 2013 and my program. In this box it says the word 'invited' beside 'status'. If you don't see something like this, they probably haven't made a decision on your file yet.
  2. Scotto, sorry to hear that you are still waiting. It really is an awful feeling...you want to stay positive but negative thoughts keep surfacing anyway. I don't think it would do much harm for you to call both schools just to find out if they have made a decision on your file. You may not learn what that decision is, but at least you will have an idea of where you stand. I have always found www.charityvillage.com to be a great resource for finding employment (or even local volunteer opportunities). It is not just for Toronto, it posts positions across Canada. I haven't used it in a while but I have successfully found jobs there in the past. Of course you can always check on specific agency websites for job opportunities as well.
  3. Are you referring to the application #? When you get admitted, you do get a student # which is different than your application #. Is the number that you see the same as your application # or is it different all together?
  4. I'm not sure if I'm answering your question. I applied to another program and was not an undergrad student at U of T. But I'm pretty sure that I do recall seeing the option to input an existing student number when I first created my application account.
  5. Congratulations Phigirl!!! Always awesome when positive thoughts mixed with happy dreams come true
  6. Hi Thumper, How many days a week do you have placement? Will your placement days increase for the 2nd year or stay the same? I also wanted to again thank you for coming on to this site and posting--it is incredibly helpful for those of us wondering what things will be like.. Thanks!
  7. When did acceptances start going out? They send acceptances by mail, right? Last year I learned about my rejection from Ryerson but it was by email, not snail mail. I'm not sure if that is the way they always do it but if you haven't been formally rejected, dont throw in the towel just yet.
  8. Thumper and Kae Kae, thank you so much for your awesome responses! This is exactly the type of information I was hoping for. In the 1yr program at U of T, you start your practicum right in september for 3days/wk. A full courseload is 4 course plus practicum. I'm not sure how I will manage that type of essay work and still be able to sleep most nights! Are these mostly research essays? Kae Kae, are presentations done individually or in groups? If it is on your own, yikes! I realize that this may not be the right forum for these questions but hopefully others are benefiting from your very helpful answers as well! Thank you both so much
  9. Scotto, why dont you give them a call and find out? I would not assume rejection just yet--maybe you are on yet another waitlist??
  10. Kae Kae, since you have already taken masters level social work classes, perhaps you can help me. I'm trying to get an idea of how much writing is involved in a typical course. I've read a lot about how much reading you have to do but not so much about the written work. How long is a typical essay and how many do you have to complete in a typical class? I'm used to writing papers most often anywhere between 5-8pgs with the occassional 10-12 pager. I'm not sure of what to expect! I understand that the workload will be different, I'm just trying to wrap my head around 'how different'! Any help you or anyone else can offer would be much appreciated!
  11. I'm so happy for you!!! A big congratulations!!!
  12. That is wonderful! You dont see many PhD candidates for SW. Did you do your masters at U of T as well?
  13. I hate those 'no-answer' answers. Did you find out what kind of timeline they are on? Like do you know when you should hear by? Oh, and a lot of those offices have call display so be sure that you block your # if you really want to be 'anonymous'!
  14. Thank you so much for your kind comments! I hope you hear good things from York soon! How long do you have to respond to Ryerson? Hopefully York will be a bit better this year and you wont have to accept your offer to Ryerson without knowing what your status is for York.
  15. Awesome, congrats! Was this your top choice? This is probably going to make a lot of people waiting to hear back from Rye happy! FINALLY decisions are coming out!
  16. Congratulations!! Because you received a phone call, I'm assuming that you were initially waitlisted?
  17. So sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to find out how you can improve your application and try again next year. As someone who has been through it, it is well worth it. When I got rejected last year, 'next year' seemed so far away. But in reality, it comes very quickly... Try again! Dont give up!
  18. Wow! I cant fathom the amount of energy and focus you would need to complete your schooling AND care for a baby. It is so mentally and emotionally exhausting when your baby is so small--even more so when they are preemie. A relaxing summer is well deserved. Best wishes for a great experience in Ottawa
  19. Congratulations! That is an awesome gpa. What is even more impressive is that you managed to get that done with a child?! Not easy by any stretch. Enjoy Ottawa...I haven't been (except a drive-by to Montreal) but I hear it is nice. Not 'youthful fun'...more like vanilla and your mom's tea party kinda fun..perfect environment for school! I'm totally kidding..enjoy!
  20. Just out of curiosity, what are scholarships based on? Is it purely academic and if so, what sort of average would you need to qualify?
  21. Hi, I will be starting my MSW in the fall and was just curious about the essays you have to write. In undergrad, essays can typically range anywhere from 5-10 pages in length (with the odd 12 pager). Are essays usually this long or longer in grad school? Also, in undergrad, you usually have to complete 2 essays per course--do you have to write more than this in grad? I'm just trying to wrap my head around the idea of doing 3 days of practicum AND 4 courses... it isn't the readings I'm afraid of, it is the essays!
  22. All the best to you as well!
  23. I totally understand. You could also look at it to mean that if they weren't interested in accepting you at all, you never would have received that email. I wish you the best of luck!
  24. What a terrible wait! All the best for great results, please keep us posted!
  25. What it sounds like to me is that they are just trying to figure out who on the waitlist is still actually 'waiting'. Many people accept offers elsewhere and I'm guessing that this person just wants to know who is really still in the running should someone else decline. Also, I would interpret the comment about having a 'great cohort joining the school' to mean that they have a really good group and should you be admitted off the waitlist, you would too be considered that.... I hope things work out well for you!
