  1. They dont usually post these things since acceptance rates change year to year. I found out the details on my program by attending an information session but even that only mentioned the last year. You can usually find out informally by calling and asking.
  2. As someone who was rejected from all 3 schools I applied to last year, I strongly encourage you not to give up. If the worst happens and you are rejected from that last school, the first thing you should do is start making calls and find out what went wrong. Take that information and work on it--and try again next year. Believe me, the time goes by very quickly and if you spend your time well, you will be in a much better position this time next year. Good luck and yes, it truly just takes one!
  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
  4. Thanks Midnight Rose! Have you heard anything from your schools yet??
  5. Congrats to your partner! I would love to go to OCAD....if I had a creative bone in my body I see from you signature that you've been waitlisted at Laurier....the god's are telling you to choose U of T!!!
  6. Wow, you got waitlisted with straight A's??!! That is pretty shocking! Sorry to hear that as I am sure it is disappointing. Although I highly doubt you will have any problem gaining full admission to Ryerson. The thing about U of T is that they do not have an assigned number of spots per stream. They have a total number of students that they admit overall and create larger/smaller classes in each stream to reflect those numbers. I know that the Mental Health stream is pretty popular as is Children and Their Families so these would likely have more numbers overall.
  7. I would totally take that as a positive sign! They only want the official stuff if they are going to extend you an offer! Fingers crossed that they aren't sadists!
  8. Congratulations Kreamy!!! Good luck with Laurier since that is your first choice. I chose the gerontology stream, how 'bout you?
  9. Hello, The acceptance 'letter' is actually a large brown envelope with a number of important papers placed in a folder. I am assuming that the waitlist notice is similar to a rejection letter which comes in a regular sized letter envelope. All the best for good news!
  10. Are you concerned about anything in particular about your previous application? I dont think they do a side-by-side comparison but they must have some type of system flagging that it is your second time applying. If you were lacking in a particular area (for example, level/type of experience, I would suspect that they look for signs of improvement.
  11. Thank you both! I hope I didn't say anything awful last year! haha It is still sinking in...but it feels great to know that things can and do work out for the best as long as you give it effort.
  12. Thank you! If it helps, the package I received was post stamped for March 5th. I live just barely north of the city so I suspect I fall within the 'local' mailing zone. As well, my status still says 'under review'. I recall last year I heard (sorry cant remember the source!) that the status wont change for a while and even when it does, it wont tell you the decision, only that one has been made.
  13. Thank you so much Goobah! I'm still in a bit of a daze. I feel like I won the lottery
  14. Thank you so very much everybody, I am truly touched by all of the kind words. This is such a hard process that many cant truly appreciate unless they've gone through it. I'm so glad that I have had such a great group of supportive people to go through with this together If you happen to get denied this year, dont let it hold you back. Go to the information session next year (U of T had them in Sept/Oct/Nov...possibly one session in the summer, if I remember correctly) and find out what they are looking for. You can always improve on your application and have better success next year. If you are waitlisted, hang in there. You just never know! If you end up not getting a spot, reapply next year! Again, don't let it hold you back.
  15. Thank you cmarie! It was actually my only choice. I wanted to apply to other schools but after being rejected last year, I decided to save my $$ and only apply to the schools that I truly wanted to attend. In this case, it was U of T. I studied their program and made sure my application reflected their goals well. It was a real gamble to apply to only one school but I was comfortable with my decision.
  16. Thank you! Dont give up on the waitlist just yet. Last year, it DID move and I recall one person getting off of it in September! Since you haven't heard from Ryerson yet, you still have a good chance of getting admitted. If the worst happens, just make sure you have a plan 'B' and start on it right away. Hang in there, it ain't over till it's over!
  17. Thank you so much Beth! I will definitely be reading/posting on gradcafe for a while still This is such an emotionally draining process.... I'm looking forward to hearing about how things work out for you and others. When I was rejected last year, I felt so 'left behind'. It seemed like everyone got accepted somewhere and I was left out. Of course logically that wasn't true. I chose to focus on my plan B and tried my very best. I am thankful that the admissions committee recognized my improvement.
  18. I just received my letter of acceptance to U of T's MSW program. After receiving 3 cold rejections last year, I couldn't be happier.
  19. I just got my package telling me that I've been admitted to the MSW program at U of T. I am so very happy! I was rejected outright last year and worked really hard to get my gpa up.
  20. I know its hard but try to stay positive. There are many reasons why you (and me and many others) did not hear anything today. They may have just started the mailings with waitlisted people first, who knows?? Were these your classmates? Did they choose the same stream as you? I just hope I hear something before the weekend! Good luck to you!
  21. Thanks so much for posting this! Do you know if their online status changed from 'under review' to 'decision made'? Did the letter give any indication about how many people applied and were accepted? (you totally knew someone would drill you with questions, didn't you? )
  22. Oh, just what I needed, a twitch under my eye. Because the knots in my stomach weren't reminding me enough of the stress...
  23. Not a thing. The only thing I can say for sure is that this anticipation is doing me in. The stress is making me sleeping and its a good day when I can focus on a task for 30min straight without checking on my status somewhere. ...someone wake me up when decisions are out...
  24. I'm starting to feel like a kid just before Christmas....the anticipation is killing me!
  25. How awful! Seriously, that sucks. In all of my reading about the do's and dont's of grad school admissions, I've seen a lot of comments basically saying that contrary to popular belief, a misspelled word is not going to get you automatically rejected. However, if it is the first of a few errors that will tell them that you aren't up to the challenge of grad school level writing/editing/proof reading. Don't sweat a single typo...if you are awesome, they will most likely ignore it.
