Hmm. I guess I will be waiting for an email frantically. Thanks for the info. I applied with my official transcipts. It was the first thing I did because I am neurotic so I not sure if that is the reason for the hold up. I guess they would still have to process these things. But its crazy they have all this time and it takes so long for that one thing. I thought waiting to hear a decision was bad; waiting for the letter for me is worse.

Thank you kaister, Did you get it through mail? Or was this online? Is it more standard to get it through the mail? I guess I am just clueless on what to expect.

Hello All, I was accepted into a education PhD at the end of January and I was wondering how long it takes to receive the official letter from the graduate college? Or will it be in email form? In the online application? Good luck on your journey!

So, I am applying there, I have been there and I have had a tour. But, I still don't get the vibe. Is it laid-back? is it uptight? So if someone goes there, knows someone, or fall into some other catergory, please let me know what you think. If it helps, I am applying to the Curriculum and Instruction and Education Policy PhD programs. What do you think of these programs?

Ah, I went through something like this myself. I decided to look for someone else and let the person know after I found someone. But, I would email this professor again letting them know the deadline again and giving that person the uptmost respect. But at the end of the day, this is your life and you by no means should sacifice your future at the hands of someone who might not have the time. Trust me, I stressed about this thing since August when my professor said she would write me a letter and never got back to me the several times I have emailed over the course of two months. By no means were my emails crazy every week emails; but they were at least three emails with no responses. I would check again and move on. IMO.

welcome to the peep show

Yeah, like coming on a site sneaking around and reading people's information then writing it online line is a real job. Give me a break. She should keep her self-centered tush to herself. Someone always has to knock other people down to make them feel good about themselves. Come on here with a username and say that! -
I should give background. I did not get a GA through my department. I was angry at first but I realized all things happen for a reason. So I still accepted. I applied to these jobs because I do like what they are doing at the school and they both are in the same place. I applied to both because they are competitve and thought surely that I would only get one interview. Well I got two. I have to think ahead because I might get them both (I refuse to sabotage one my interviews) I did one them today and I enjoyed it and I have not did the other. Since there are no decisions made yet (though I hope I get one of them) if I was to get both jobs, how do I turn down one nicely and not mess a relationship up with people I might have to work with? What should I say? How should I go about it? I just do not want to seem like I was taking them for granted and I wanted to make sure I have a chance to work for one of them and have more chances for monetary and professional purposes. Thank you all for your help

Thank you all for your responses. My advisor said most people take 3 classes. He also said that I have to take a class that is 1 unit/credit and there is not much work in it so, I 'might' want to take another course to give myself some more work. Well, I dont want to but what do you all think? Should I? Is there any benefit of doing this?

Yes first generation student right here. Do I feel disadvantaged? Sometimes. But that is the fuel to my fire. I will not let anyone knock my hustle and neither should you. You got this far, and you have to learn that there are people who share some experiences with you. I would surround yourself around those people. I would just like to say, we do need a national convention for first gener's. Someone needs to get that rolling.

Hi. going there as well. I am excited.

Hello All, I have not been here in some time and I needed to clear my head. After not getting funding but securing two grad assistant interviews (tomorrow and next week; same people different jobs. I'll figure it out later) and dealing with a difficult advisor (still going through this) I have a question. As you can see in between not doing my work for classes, I have arrived at an impasse. I am aware it is different for schools, program, etc. How many courses do master students take? How many did you take? or how many have you heard people take? Thanks, I hope all is well with you all

Oh, thank god you said not to put April 15th is coming around in my email... that was my first thought. Geez. Thanks, I am not sure what I would do without this site and the help of all of you.

It is for graduate school. I thought only catholic schools are off on good friday. what is considered a pushy email?
-
I emailed this person on March 22nd. They said the end by the end of this week. Of course, it is not the end just yet. But as the deadline is coming closer when do you think I should contact them about funding. She said that they have not figured out the budget in the last email. (if that helps). Should I email her Monday...Tuesday...or just wait.

Quick question about applying to PhD programs
bellefast replied to bellefast's topic in Applications
Thanks, it does help. I didn't know that some programs want it you to be finished before you apply. -
I know this may seem silly, but ideally when do you apply to PhD programs? During the second year of your masters or after you are done? What have you done, heard, seen, etc. I don't want to apply then and seem as if I am not committed to there program while I am applying.

I don't think there is a ranking for these schools. I have looked all over the place. I would email the graduate students for their opinions about the ranking and the program, if you haven't already. It helped me to make a decision on where I wanted to go.

I am from Chicago and go to DePaul as an undergradate. The campus is extremely safe. But just like any place that has a lot of people, you have to be careful. I hope you guys and anyone else going to DePaul have a great time there. It is nothing like it. If you have other questions, let me know.

I applied to 9 only got 3 and I am content with that. If this is your first time (like me) and you got in consider yourself lucky. Because these programs are cut-throat. But, think of it this way, those schools that accepted you wanted you and other people didn't get in. It is way better to have some than none.
