  1. Everyone is not at that level and that does not make you unable to do graduate school. In fact, professors to this day have issues with writing. As do you, I am pretty sure. No one is perfect. But in this field and in many others, you simply cannot submit something unrelated to what you are trying to go into so it is important for ailinna to submit a paper in the field
  2. Hi I am actually applying to East Asian programs this year. YAY someone else too.... Now on to your question. I think it will be important to have a writing sample especially if your scores for writing is not that well. It can show your ability to write well. However, if it is not in the field, I am not sure it will help to have it there. I have heard both sides of that argument, some say it is okay since it is a MA program and others say don't do it because it shows you didn't do research in that field before you have applied.
  3. Well I acutally go to DePaul and I live away from the area. Lincoln park is somewhat cheap and the area is safe and family friendly. Free zoo and cool places for children. For happiness I would live in the area. And Some places at the lake comes to $900 just for 1 br. 1500 for a 3br is do-able.
  4. I am sorry to hear this. I would explain the situation to the program and then see what they say. That is all you can do. I wish you luck!
  5. I hate what you are feeling. I feel this too. I am not in your field but research goes a long way. More often than not many people do not have much research experience and you need to focus on that and on stating that the best way possible. I don't focus too much on GRE and GPA mine is bad too but rather I work on stuff I can fix such as writing samples and research, that said, apply to MA programs as well. Good Luck
  6. I am not in this forum but I live in Chicago and northwestern is a great school. (I don't go there btw and wouldn't want to) But it is good for what it does. Good luck all
  7. No one seems to be talking about these programs. I am applying to 9 of these programs, I have an okay gpa, horrible gre, but I have an kick ass writing sample of 28 pgs, good statement of purpose, and good research experiences over the years in undergrad, and a good cv. Let's talk about it and lets support each other!
  8. Well I am applying to programs as well this year and I think that if you have other things such as research experience, it can balance things out for you. I am in the same boat. But, I have faith that research showing you know your stuff is more importance since that is one of the bigger things in grad school.
