  1. We should be hearing from Yale and Harvard these days
  2. I cannot really imagine myself resting or something like that. Having finished my MA in comparative linguistics, I've decided to enroll in philosophy MA as well, to focus on philosophy of language. That's making me busy a bit, but I'm used to heavy load of coursework, so there's plenty of time for being anxious, impatient and crazy.
  3. Waiting Elvis - Always on My Mind Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive Green Day - Wake me up when Januar... September Ends GnR - Patience Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting ABBA - Take a Chance on Me Blondie - Call Me U2 - With or Without You
  4. That's just another parallel dimension in which I go through a nervous breakdown, get better, and then go through another one and die somewhere inbetween because of disbelief. That's cruel.
  5. I love nature. And syntax is the closest to botany I'll ever get. Damn trees!
  6. I'd do an acceptance, but not a rejection. I don't like to whine and to make people feel bad or sad because of me (it could make some people happy though, heh). I wouldn't do a "RIP" od "I'm sick " status or something like that. It's a matter of taste, just like with the acceptance stuff.
  7. Turning those apps into abs, yeah!
  8. I'm already logging myself in every couple of hours. WAY AHEAD OF THEM!!1111
  9. It's almost February. And I'm spending my Saturday night reading about Shilha pronominal system. And that makes me happy and weird at the same time. Fellow linguists, how are you coping with this awful times of troubles? Do you sleep or do you sleep furiously or have some colorless green ideas? I'm losing my mind/
  10. I hate the fact that Gmail gives you a sneak preview of the first few lines of your e-mail so basically, if I see something like "We are happy to..." or "We are sorry", I'll already know.
  11. I'm the biggest fan. I watched the last episode with my friends and we're still developing conspiracy theories about it.
  12. Hello there! Well, judging by the last year's results, it should be in a couple of days. Good luck to you!
  13. There's a nice book by Lynne Truss called Eats, Shoots & Leaves on punctuation, and this joke served as its basis. It's well-written and funny, mostly popular linguistics, but well worth a read. Thanks for remining me of this joke, I like it.
  14. I'm scared of a possible phone interview, I'd die before a real one.
  15. Well, I wrote while ago, so I guess I'll just write an epic or something like that.
  16. OK, we need to make some kind of a drinking game. However, instead of drinking, the loser isn't allowed to refresh his inbox for an hour.
  17. It's not even February yet! February's when the mass madness begins! Wait for the party!
  18. My BF's was like "Why do you like that place so much?" "Because I feel less crazy there." I'm not sane these days. I go out and get a cup of coffee with my friends and I'm constantly refreshing my inbox and never letting go of my cellphone. Of course, I tend to make something up (I'm waiting for a phone call, I have to reply to some e-mails etc.), but I'm just checking out my inbox and posting things like I'M GOING CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY all around this place. Somehow it makes me happy. And less homicidal.
  19. I'm looking forward to meeting you one day. Who knows... My top choices are Harvard and Cornell, mostly because of Jay Jasanoff and Wayles Browne, who seem to be the best choice for my future work. I've got a few other schools, but I'm not quite sure I'd be a good fit. Being an international student (of comparative linguistics, which means a poor one ), I had to go for need-blind admission schools for *all* applicants (not just U.S. ones), and that's basically Harvard, MIT and Yale as well. A long time ago I read Joseph's Handbook of Historical Linguistics and that's how I became familiar with his work. He's done some good things about Balkan Sprachbund and its syntax and I've read some of his papers on Sanskrit. However, I never managed to find some time to follow his work on Ancient and Modern Greek. @moveandmerge, go to your profile (your nickname in the upper right corner), then on Edit profile (again upper right corner, black button), and there should be a Signature tab on the left-side menu.
  20. Yaaaaaaaaay! Historical linguistics, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure... I had taken a lot of courses on Latin and Old Latin, however I was more into Proto-Indo-European approach and not so much into various Romance languages. I have a tendency to be the jack of all trades (and a master of none ), so I had to stop switching my interests between various language groups (and other random fields of interest in my life, I had to stop with "TODAY I'M A PHYSICIST"), so I focused on Balto-Slavic ones. That was my I do. Romance and Slavic linguistics are alike actually, there are various language descendants of the common proto-lanaguage and there's so much work to do to grasp them all. I wish you good luck regarding your research and acceptances.
  21. Reading philosophy. I'm all into deconstructing time, space and myself. How appropriate!
