  1. Also for those concerned about envelope: It is a brown envelope from SSHRC with 4 pages. Much thicker than when the MA envelope from 2 years ago and they had to use tape to close it. Hope that helps.
  2. Hi all! I also received my letter here in ottawa.
  3. I have a late delivery time (4pm - 8 pm), so I was hoping some received their letters in early delivery!
  4. So, is everyone glued to their mailbox? I thought we may have some early bird deliveries in Ottawa but perhaps tomorrow will be the day.
  5. I did not. I had a temporal timeline for my proposed empirical site, but not for my studies.
  6. I think that depends on the department and if they are taking the initiative to email students or if it is the result of enterprising students hounding graduate studies. As I have no idea, I would assume grad studies would avoid emailing unsuccessful/waitlisted students in lieu of "wait for sshrc" responses. But yet again, I have no idea!
  7. Congrats! Seems as if a lot more are finding out from grad departments this year than in years past!
  8. It seems as if today is the day for them to be mailed, judging by their last tweet. But who knows!
  9. I have no problem sharing my BG - the only thing I will keep out is institution (just until SSHRC sends out the letters...I do not want to 'out' the individual who informed me) Going into first year of Ph.D Small undergraduate university GPA: 4.06/4.3 Graduate GPA: 4.2/4.3 MA SSHRC OGS 0 Pubs (one under review, which was mentioned in one of my LOR but not on my application) 5 Conference Presentations (2 at 'legit' conferences 3 at graduate conferences) 7 Research Assistantships + 3 TAs (if these even matter) Very strong LOR - I have some great relationships (as I am sure we all do) What I believe to be a very strong and timely research proposal I think the proposal + letters are what did it for me, especially with the lack of publications (although from what I understand pubs for MAs going into Ph.D are weighted with less importance). I probably went through 20+ drafts and put off my thesis for two months to focus on it. I had several members of my department look at it, several faculty members outside my department (particularly in areas such as psychology and political science...which overlap with my research area), and a few professors at other universities. I took all feedback quite literally and worked extremely hard on making the proposal accessible to all audiences. I hope that helps crimsoc, sending positive vibes your way!
  10. Thanks Konstantin! Hoping you receive positive news! Edit: May I suggest emailing your awards officer? I approached some graduate administrators this morning and they had absolutely no news.
  11. Congrats pbaid and surefire! Surefire, as a member of these forums I know you have been working hard for a few years so I am glad you got the super SSHRC. It seems that the news is trickling out much more this year than past years!
  12. Thanks Safferz! Worked extremely hard but I also understand how truly lucky I am. Humbling.
  13. I just found out from graduate studies that I was a successful SSHRC Fellowship winner...80K/4years. Thanks for the support over the last months everyone!
  14. SSHRC just tweeted in response to a doctoral inquiry: "should have news for you by EOD". sounds promising.
  15. No worries! It happens, it is just a testy time for doctoral students hoping to receive word!
  16. Ditto. But there could have been miscommunication somewhere! Congrats nonetheless! This is the best tweet and almost certainly stems from grad cafe anxiety: "@SSHRC_CRSH Some schools have already notified doctoral award recipients, yet U of O has not received results. When are they being mailed?"
  17. Hopefully for the rest of us that means the letters will be sent out tomorrow! Congrats to those who were successful!
  18. Yeah, we all know SSHRC does not give results via email. This has to be the MA competition.
  19. So is there a general consensus about asking our department administrators about results (when SSHRC announces they have been mailed)? Do all have access to the information, but only some willing to disclose? Is it hit or miss? Anything to pass the time...
  20. I'm sorry! It must be he pessimistic academic in me coming out!
  21. Yes! Good luck to all! Hoping for any day before Friday for SSHRC to send out results. Now that I have said that it will be Friday afternoon...
  22. Your investigative skills are far superior to mine, my friend. I definitely just assumed based on the date this was published (April 4, 2014)
  23. http://werklund.ucalgary.ca/node/2673 It seems as if some departments already know results... Not sure what this means, there could be so much more to it.
  24. I know several former colleagues who have gone on to work at SSHRC in various positions, they most definitely are aware of this particular forum. I would imagine some do, and some don't.
