  1. I would not expect results to be announced until at least May. That goes for both OGS and SSHRC.
  2. Perhaps a recommendation letter is not the most effective form of communication. Have you given thought to sending a revised letter of intent outlining how you fit specifically with that department and locating potential supervisors? I have noticed that many departments will place candidates on a wait list for reasons surrounding fit, and more generally, adequate supervision. If I were in the same position, I would first send another Letter of intent which displays how I fit with that department specifically rather than a LOR.
  3. My thoughts exactly, NPSIA has terrible funding.
  4. It still surprises me that some schools/programs offer terrible funding packages, while others provide outstanding ones. I am a great candidate who is completely tired of using OSAP/Loans to pay for my schooling. So in my opinion, funding was perhaps the most important variable in my choice. Sure schools such as U of T or departments such as NPSIA are very prestigious, but that is not enough for me to say "no thanks" to over $20,000. It seems to me that many great candidates will decline offers, from say NPSIA, simply due to the lack of funding. "you get what you pay for"
  5. Carleton gives great funding - I got a fully funded acceptance to the Political Science MA, which I accepted. NPSIA, on the other hand, is more of a 'professional school', and it is considered among the best in North America, therefore I think they can 'get away' with offering less to their students. They also do not have many TA slots, so that is basically 10,000 taken away from most students.
  6. Just declined my admission to NPSIA - Intelligence and National Security Cluster. Hope you waitlister's are happy!
  7. I assume that the funding package you are all speaking of (2000-5000) is the amount given to you by the DEPARTMENT via scholarship. Once the FGPA approves your admission, I am assuming they will contact you with the decisions regarding TAships and additional scholarships. However, I have no verification for this statement and I could most definitely be incorrect.
  8. To you waitlister's out there, I will be declining once the FGPA sends an offer.
  9. I also got into NPSIA, but I will not be attending.
  10. I have nothing substantial to add to this post, but this program sounds like it would be incredibly interesting! -Good luck, and I apologize for my 'useless' post.
  11. Thank you very much for the insight!
  12. Does anyone have experience going from a Criminology/Sociology undergrad to a Political Science MA program and have any suggestions about the transition? I am deciding between a couple programs, but am nervous about how difficult the transition will be without the background of a Poli Sci BA.
  13. Most departments are fairly decent about that sort of thing, email them and let them know your situation. It can't really hurt.
  14. I posted it in the Political Science discussion too, but I have been accepted into the Political Science MA program at Carleton University. So if you applied, go check! Good luck to all.
  15. I just received an acceptance to Carleton Political Science MA. My application is being forwarded to FGPA for approval. Stats: 4.02/4.3 GPA from small university (Criminology) Several Research Assistanships Diploma from community college VERY strong LORs
  16. I applied to NPSIA, but I will not be attending, as I have already received news from a program higher on my list. Good luck to all who have applied, and do not worry, if I am accepted I will turn it down immediately.
  17. yeah mine changed too! its going to be a long wait!
  18. Nothing official, but hearing that Carleton Sociology MA committee is meeting this week, and offers could go out as early as late this week or early next week.
  19. Yeah my first acceptance came with a 12,500 offer for a Criminology MA.
  20. Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand In Mine
  21. Assuming you have received an official offer, I would doubt that they would rescind it at this point. However, I do not know the whole situation. Remember: Professors are VERY busy, especially around this time of year, I would just try and wait it out (I know that sucks) Congrats on the acceptance!
  22. I have absolutely no idea what the consensus is, but at my undergraduate institution (A very small Canadian University), the DGS is involved in the decision making process. The only reason I know this is because I had a direct conversation about it with him. That being said, I have no idea about larger universities. I would speculate that no, the DGS would not play a role in decision making at larger schools. I would imagine that there are just too many applicants in far too many disciplines. The DGS has other things to deal with.
  23. So I found out from my University that I am one of only two applications forwarded to SSHRC, here's hoping we both manage to get one!
  24. LOL, to be honest, I do not even want to go to U of TORONTO either. I have heard the funding is non-existent and I really cannot afford to pursue an MA without funding. Additionally, there are other school's which have professors I really want to work with (U of T, not so much) But good luck! hopefully you get in! (I see you already got in for Sociology so congrats)
  25. I just heard back from UOIT Criminology, not my first choice, but nice to get my first OFFICIAL offer. Offer came with funding information too.
