  1. It was a regular SSHRC brown envelope. It had a white sticker with your address on it. It wasn't overly thick. It had two pages in it so it was honestly a regular size. Think brown phone bill, with SSHRC insignia on the top.
  2. I forgot to mention, I included that as well! Thanks
  3. Thanks! I just want to make sure that I do not miss the boat on anything! haha
  4. Does anyone out there know the answer to this question. I have already emailed SSHRC to acknowledge acceptance of the award. I have also sent both Form I and II to my host university. Is there anything else that I am required to do to activate payment?
  5. Congrats Vee! It is definitely more difficult to get a SSHRC being an independent. Last year there were only 50 awarded and I can only assume that there were many more applications.
  6. In order to avoid Users thinking "why was it mailed on the 17th and I still haven't heard anything". The date on the letter is May 17th, however, the letters were post-marked on May 24th.
  7. This is what made me question the results being disseminated in the first place. SSHRC has been regularly updating their twitter with result information. I would, personally, not put too much stress on the relationship between topic and government. It seems that it has a lot to do with simply being forwarded by your University. I have yet to hear of anyone who has been unsuccessful after being forwarded.
  8. Yeah, from what I can tell, there have already been a few successful SSHRC winners who also won the OGS, myself included. I will be declining the OGS, so hopefully one of you waitlisters get it!
  9. Here's hoping those of you out west hear good news tomorrow! Good luck.
  10. FYI, I know that of the two students sent to Ottawa from my University, both of us were successful. I come from a small university.
  11. Mine was May 24th.
  12. Bombardier. I am in Oshawa
  13. Wow I apologize to AION. The results have been sent and I am a successful recipient! Political Science GPA: 3.9x (At the time of application)/4.3 No publications SEVERAL research assistantships Great letters of recommendations I guess I had a great letter of intent! Congrats to all!
  14. I would not put too much stock in what Aion has said, unless Aion has some sort of 'inside' information (For example, the department as been informed). If indeed notices were sent, there would be more than one person to come on here and post about it. In addition, SSHRC has been very good at disseminating release information on their Twitter account. That being said, if indeed Aion has heard something, it would mean the rest of us should hear something fairly soon. Either way, I think the wait is nearing the end. Note: I am not saying Aion has lied, I am simply saying that he or she may be privy to some information which the rest of us may not be or that we are misinterpreting the post. I am suggesting that users do not get too excited as there has been no indication from SSHRC that results have been sent out.
  15. I would, personally, reach out as early as possible during the semester that you will be applying. For example, you have stated that you are applying in December so I would reach out to them a few weeks into September (when things have settled down after the first few weeks). The reason for this is through my experience, professors tend (obviously not all) to organize their thoughts in terms of deadlines given in one specific semester. For instance, a professor would organize their time based around marking exams, papers, and final due dates. Contacting the professor in late September would give them sufficient time to reply and organize a letter for you if they agree. Others may have another suggestion, but this is what I would do.
  16. This can be largely dependent on a variety of issues such as: area of study (professional schools may place less emphasis on academic recommendations), the department to which you have applied, the admissions committee overseeing your application, etc. The reason universities want to see academic recommendations is because academia requires a different skillset in certain instances than working for say an IT company as an engineer. Admissions committee's, generally, want to know that you are up to the challenges of graduate school. These challenges include, but are not limited to: methodology, theory, writing, research, and overall commitment to your studies. From my experience and what I have been told by former/current admission committee members is that academic references are largely the base for the candidate's 'potential' to succeed at the Master's or Doctoral level, which is important to the Universities. That being said, if you are unable to get a 'good' reference from your old professors (which is what I am reading from your post), I would suggest that you use your solid professional letters. However, be aware that the university to which you are applying to may have restrictions on the number of professional or academic references. I have been told by many mentor's that "A good letter from a less known professor is better than a bad/mediocre letter from a well known academic" and I think the same sentiment can be applied to your issue. Hope this helps at all.
  17. At this point, I would not expect any news until June 1st (Next Friday). I have said it here previously, but based on their twitter feed it seems that the results usually come out on Friday's. In addition, as someone on here mentioned, a grad office stated that they were told by SSHRC that results would not be sent out until May 31st at the earliest.
  18. No problem. I just didn't want people getting their hopes up. Like I said, based on their past tweets, the message will come out on a FRIDAY and say: "SSHRC Master's results have now been mailed. Watch your mailbox!" The reason I say Friday is that this years Doctoral results were on a Friday. In addition, both Master's and Doctoral results last year were mailed out on a Friday (Based on the twitter feed)
  19. The tweet from SSHRC was in reply to someone asking: "Are the results mailed or emailed?"
  20. Based on all of SSHRC's tweets, when they are mailed the tweet will read: "SSHRC Master's results have now been mailed. Watch your mailbox!"
  21. Got an OGS, pretty excited. Adjudication Completed - Successful Candidate
  22. With this and SSHRC master's results being delayed (last year results were sent out on May 6th) I am losing my mind.
  23. It still goes to the same page with the message "In Competition" for me.
  24. ~83% - 5 Accepts and 1 Rejection 1 Still MIA
