  1. All signs point to notification by mail. I am not sure that anything is done online at the doctoral level.
  2. Good luck to all the Vanier hopefuls awaiting word tomorrow!
  3. I hear you Macavity, I am away from the 12-19th with very little access to internet and absolutely no access to my mailbox! So I guess I will not be finding out until at least the 20th even if we get the notification earlier than last year. Going to be a long trip, I think. EDIT: Konstantin, do you know if your department emails successful students before notification from SSHRC? You seem to have a lot of knowledge of the process form years past.
  4. I've already forgotten about it...oh wait, I am here. Guess I haven't.
  5. It is usually an A-, generally speaking for the FGPA. In my experience, the actual department does not seem to care, but if you drop the FGPA may raise questions.
  6. I also very much doubt that we hear before April, and before late April at that. I think we should question whether we hear back before May rather than April.
  7. I did both! haha The school that requires word back first is pretty much tied up by graduate studies and U of T is pretty horrible (in my experience) with returning emails in an efficient manner.
  8. I applied to the Crim program, but for Ph.D (not sure if you are MA or Ph.D). My status on SGS still says "under review", but the results page suggests that we will not know the decisions until mid to late March. Here is hoping it is much earlier as I have to let a couple schools know of my decision before then.
  9. Hi Macavity, I am in the same boat. Deciding between programs: school A has a much better basic package, and provides a very small "top up" if one wins a SSHRC...school B, on the other hand, offers far less but does not 'claw back' any funding, allowing students to keep their entire funding package in addition to a SSHRC. I do agree, it is tough to make a decision based on hypothetical money - especially when is such a toss up. Either way, it would be nice to at least know before I have to make the decision, but that will not happen. Good luck!
  10. April 1st would have been a glorious time to find out. Seems like every time I apply for a scholarship, I am in the last group to be informed! New system for CGS-M, same old for CGS-D...too bad.
  11. So...anyone in the camp believe that the early Budget may lead to early notification? ...I do not.
  12. You could be entirely correct, but the two are separate awards from the same pool. For example, school sends 60 a-list applications and all 60 are considered for both...however you cannot receive both so I am indeed assuming that the CGS and Fellowships can be added together to find a total number of SSHRC awards given per institution. That being said, I have no way to verify this claim. Edit: the total number of awards to applicants was something around 950:1900. I do not have the info in front of me right now so those numbers are not correct.
  13. Not sure where you are looking, but I see that McGill sent 96 A-List Applicants. 22 Received Fellowships and 28 received a CGS. That is 50/96, so 52%. The CGS is super-SSHRC (35x3), if you look at the fellowships you will see how many A-list were sent and how many fellowships were received (in addition to the super-SSHRC).
  14. I also received this email. Extremely generic with little to no information...not even an estimated notification date.
  15. Take a look at the link provided by wtncffts, it provides a bunch of information on successful SSHRC applications in years past. You can look at total applications vs successful, A-list vs B-list, and university specific information like total applications vs successful applications. In years past, the general success rate has been between 40-50%.
  16. Your application goes to the national competition stage where various committees sit and judge each application, giving it a score out of 30. For us, we wait until April/May when suddenly everyone receives mail saying whether they were successful or not and their score is given to them. Scores are really difficult to read. For example, an application in one of SSHRC committees can receive a score of 16/30 and be funded whereas a score of 20+ in another may not be successful. To be honest, from this point out it is pretty much a crapshoot. Best to think that the odds of winning are somewhere between 45%-50% if you make it out of your university.
  17. In my experience dealing with administrators at both the department and university level, administrators tend to do the 'make sure' before any decisions are made. Typically, administrators go through each application before the committee looks at the to ensure everything has been completed and completed properly. Of course, your department could have missed something that was caught at the university level. That being said, each school and department is different so who knows. I think that either way you will not know until the the university (or SSHRC) lets you know!

    CIHR 2012

So let me get something straight, CIHR applicants have yet to hear anything for the Master's competition? If so, wow, I could not imagine...NSERC Master's students heard in april and SSHRC in may. I could not imagine waiting until July for the news.
  19. Fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca I am not sure how important the capital F is, but that is the email I sent it to - I received a reply.
  20. I believe you have to be in full time MA studies in order to receive the SSHRC payments. Also, you had to indicate a may start on your application. You may be able to change the start of the scholarship to May if you are indeed in full time MA studies throughout the summer, but not if you begin in Sept.
  21. ilovebooks, I cannot say that I know for sure, but from what I understand larger institutions send both an 'A' and 'B' list - 'B' list being alternates. As you said, you would be on a waitlist, so unfortunately you will not hear anything positive until, I assume, at least the middle of June. It is stipulated that successful applicants must inform SSHRC of their decision to accept or decline the award within four weeks. I doubt you will hear back from SSHRC with positive news until then. However, if you are unsuccessful (I do not know SSHRC protocol for alternate lists), I would assume you would find out before. So I would suggest that in your case no news is good news. Good luck!
  22. Congrats Spinrah! It ks crazy to think that us close to ottawa found out on monday and you had to wait until today! Derek
  23. Just curious if anyone has/will hold the J.A. Bombardier CGS at Carleton. If so, could you please PM me?
  24. Congrats gbailey! for the sake of other members can you provide your stats? Independent/Through university? GPA? Pubs? Conferences? Letters? Etc.
