  1. Called again today to get an estimated timeframe for a decision. The guy said my app should be going to the review committee very soon Guess I'm committing to UChicago next week because UMichigan might really take a while. :-(
  2. Hi! So I'm pretty much set on attending UChicago. They gave me a great scholarship amount and the program seems amazing! But what sealed it for me was having two professors reach out to me and say they look forward to working with me. :-) I just have a few questions I hope one of you can answer since you're in your first year. 1) I received my preliminary fin aid letter and was awarded $4500 in work-study. Is it realistic for students to earn $500 a month with a part-time job? Is it easy for students to find a work-study job on campus? If you work, how many hours do you work each week? How many hours would you think would be too much to handle with the courseload? 2) Housing - Do most first-years choose graduate housing? What are some cheap, safe neighborhoods to look into? I know this is not exactly on topic for this thread so feel free to msg me the answer if need be. Thanks in advance!
  3. So, I applied Dec. 20th & by that date everything was in: transcript arrived in Nov & all recommendations were complete before my submission. I wasn't notified of my application status until Feb. 6th. I called today to get a timeframe for when I can expect a decision & the guy said 8 weeks AFTER the app status email. That seems ridiculous to me given that puts my decision notification in April . Those who have already received their decision: how much time passed between your app status/friend acct email & your admission decision? Thanks!
  4. Congrats!!!! The beauty and pain of having options, lol.
  5. CONGRATS! That's awesome! So will they automatically renew your scholarship for the second year?
  6. So UMichigan uses a modified rolling admissions process & I am happy I now know what that means! Basically this is why some people who applied before others may not receive a decision before those applicants: "The Admissions Committee uses a modified rolling admissions process. Files are reviewed in the order in which they are completed, but decisions are not necessarily made in the order in which applications are received and reviewed." (I got this info from some other school's website, but the process is the same.) Happy waiting everyone! :-)
  7. When you say $6,000 a year, do you mean that the amount is all grant/scholarship and the rest of your package is loan? Or does that amount include a combo of grant/scholarship/loan/work-study? I hope my question is clear, lol.
  8. I have not received a decision yet because I submitted my app Dec. 21st (blah to UMich for being so slow in processing apps). I'm hoping to hear back in the next few weeks though. I was getting worried because on the GSSA information sheet it said that interviews would be conducted mid-February and that decisions will be made mid-March. I'm really banking on this position so I'm hoping to hear something soon!! Thanks for the info!
  9. Did anyone else apply for the GSSA position? If so, have you been selected for an interview? I've been trying to contact Michelle Woods to see if they have contacted people, but she has yet to return my phone call. :-(
  10. Congratulations! When did you submit your application?
  11. Thanks! I've heard that you have to find your own field placement and will be competing with students in two other social work programs in St. Louis. I've also heard that it isn't very rigorous (strange because they are ranked #1). These are just things I've come across on the internet so I do not know if they have any validity. As for the scholarship interview, I was confused because I thought scholarship decisions were automatically made based on applications. I do not know if I am interviewing for specific scholarships, but she did mention that they needed more information about my interests and plans. *shrugs* I will let you know how that goes.
  12. I just received a call from an admissions person at Washington University in St. Louis congratulating me on my acceptance!! (The website still says my app is under review). I have an interview next week so that I can be considered for scholarships. I'm excited, but I've heard not-so-good things about WashU's social work program. Can anyone speak on this? Thanks.
  13. If you receive work-study funds, some programs allow you to use your practicum as your work-study job. So it's worth asking to see if you can do this at your program. I know it has really helped my friend since she doesn't have to work a part-time job in addition to her field placement.
  14. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you!! Congrats!!
  15. Thanks for the info! Good luck to the ppl who got their apps in by Dec 1st!! :-)
  16. Just got my acceptance to UChicago with a $29,500 scholarship that is renewable for the second year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OmG! This feels AMAZING! I applied December 18th and received an email telling me that my app status had changed online. :-)
  17. Awesome!! I love to hear about people getting into their dream schools. Philly is pretty great as well. So did you apply anywhere else?
  18. My scholarship info was on the electronic version of the acceptance letter. & nope. UPenn isn't a top choice for me. I would love to go to UChicago or UMichigan. But my friend speaks highly of Penn's program & it appears to be more rigorous than other schools that are ranked higher. Just hope another program will offer me more money. Is it your top choice?
  19. Awards are renewed automatically the second year from what my friend tells me (she's finishing up her second year). So $24,000 for 2 years seems pretty good, but Idk how much your other school willow offer. Good luck!!
  20. Log onto the application portal and you should be able to view your letter.
  21. Thanks for starting this thread!! I submitted my application on Dec. 21st & just got an email about my app's complete status yesterday. I called & they said they are giving those who submitted by Dec. 1st priority so you should hear by March 1st. People like me will be considered on a rolling basis. I hate waiting!! :-(
