UN Young Professionals Program 2012
jflorezi replied to jflorezi's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Thanks! Anybody else?? -
Hi all! I wasn't 100% about starting this thread in this topic -considering that there's a "Jobs" form-, but in the end I think I'll get more info/thoughts here than there :-) So, is anybody thinking on applying for the 2012 UN YPP? Any thoughts/suggestions? Which track are you applying for? Has anybody applied for the YPP before? If so, any suggestions on material, books, papers, etc., that would helps us prepare for the exam. Can you describe the process (interviews, length, etc.)? Thanks!

Who's else is heading to Syracuse this summer/autumn?

Game theory can be cool, but it's going to deman a lot of calculus and statistics (and nowhere near introductory courses) if you want to focus on that. A good introductory book is Osborne, An Introduction to Game Theory

Maxwell is pretty generous if you have a relevant background. Full tuition + Stipend is not unheard of there ;-)

I rejected my offer from G'town on Sunday, so there's one more spot for those that were waitlisted!
-
domnulsl, I also applied -and was admitted- to the MAIR, but a MPA 2002-03 student sold me the program very well hehe. So I might request to transfer (or add!) to the dual degree program !
-
So, who's attending MAIR???
-
Hahah! Sure I will! When do you plan to move to SYR? I was thinking about late July, early August... :/
-
This week I was notified that I was selected as a De Sardon Glass Fellow! I applied for the MAIR program, but plan to apply for the dual program MPA/MAIR Who else is attending SU this Summer/Fall??

Georgetown MSFS decisions starts
jflorezi replied to grad_cafe_101's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I agree with you; also, GU has always been my dream school... :/ Although I am willing to take on debt, I was (ideally) expecting some aid from the University, since right now I can't borrow 130+K that would cost me to attend GU -

SFS/SIPA/Fletcher/Maxwell and others: Financial Aid?
jflorezi replied to jflorezi's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Not at all charlotte_asia, you need not apologise. I agree with you on the IR experience; is better to have it than not to. I was just wondering about the financial aid issue and your answer is absolutely right. Nonetheless, I think my application is competitive at the straight-from-undergrad level/group; I'm competing for a spot among the 5% of applicants that are accepted with no professional experience. -
Americans applying to IR MA/PhD programs overseas
jflorezi replied to lecorbeau's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Although I'm applying to schools in the US, I once considered applying to the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneve. I eventually decided not to. My perception is that their programs are well regarded/ranked. Any comments on this school? -
Hey everybody, for some reason Ibelieve that the majority of users of this forum are applying to PP/PA programs. I'm just curious about this and wanted to conduct a survey I might have forgotten one or two categories; just tried to make it as generic as possible!

Indeed, that's why I wrote "relevant experience." -
SFS/SIPA/Fletcher/Maxwell and others: Financial Aid?
jflorezi replied to jflorezi's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Thanks meichen_l. We'll just have to wait and see. Just to be clear, I'm not expecting 40k on financial aid (hehe); I'm just wondering how much these schools would usually give to international applicants. About the experience requirement... for some reason I believe that what they are looking is relevant experience -not necessarily work experience-; it just doesn't make sense to me that somebody who was the district manager for KFC in Northern Virginia (just picked a random place and job, no offense intended) would "score" more points on his/her application than somebody who has had more IR relevant experience, such as an internship at an embassy, research experience, living abroad (but by all means not just eating and paying rent abroad: doing something actually related to the field!), etc. Probably I'm just wrong -
SFS/SIPA/Fletcher/Maxwell and others: Financial Aid?
jflorezi replied to jflorezi's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Sure I can! Whilst studying as an undergrad I lived in three different countries (UK, Australia, the US, plus my home country -Colombia) for over 3 years. All I did was related to the programs I applied to; no French cousine classes hehe (kidding). So, basically I studied and did some volunteer work (internship), abroad during that time. ;-) -
Hi everybody! As most of you here, I'm waiting to hear back from SFS and SIPA regarding my MSFS/MIA applications. However, being accepted is just another obstacle I have to overcome in order to go to graduate school. I could only attend any of the colleges mentioned on the title if I get substantial financial aid. Are you familiar with their financial aid policies? How stingy/generous they are? If you attended/are attending, did you receive a scholarship/assistantship/fellowship? Btw, I'm a foreign student, applying straight from undergrad, but with over 3 years of international exposure (living, studying, working). Thanks everybody!!
