Hi everyone! I'll go to Columbia this fall and yet haven't secured any housing. I have an option to live in Queens (if I don't get the campus housing one). Anyone has the experience commuting from Queens to Columbia? How long does it take by train? I'd love to hear any advice. Thanks.

Dear fellow, I am in process of applying my I-20. One of supporting documentations I have to submit to the International Students and Scholars Office is: "A signed and dated letter from you describing how you will pay for your tuition, fees and living expenses for the first year of your studies and how you plan to pay for the following year(s)". However, I have received a scholarship that will cover my tuition fees and living expenses. What should I write on the letter? Any experience? In addition, the ISSO also requires "Documents that show that you have enough funds available now for your tuition, fees and living expenses for the first year of your studies. Bank statements must show the name of the account holder." Do I have to submit this document as well since all my tuition will be covered through a scholarship? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I thinks there are several students are in NY now. You can contact them both through the MPA-DP and SIPA 2014 Facebook Groups. Even I'll be in NY in the Fall.

Congrats!

Hi beekline, I agree with Nexpresso. I think your background is okay, but you might need to elaborate your application comprehensively: the SOP, LoR, CV, etc. Good luck for you.

Regarding your iBT score, I think the admission officer also consider your internationally exposure experience (training in WTO and the fact that your are working in MoFA). Btw, have you discussed with Gerri, a MoFA's civil servant currently enrolling in MIA? She might give you more insight on what the program is and even better the relation with MoFA's works.

Anyone will attend the Thursday event? -
Hi beekline, I am international student with poor GRE verbal too On my SOP, I wrote my rural development internship during undergraduate and I elaborate it with my current working experience. IMHO, MPA DP more into practical learning (internship projects here and there), thus, the admission officer might consider practical experience as well. CMIIW. I don't know whether you once have hands on experience during your college time or doing field monitoring for your research. If you have any, I think you should try to write them on your SOP. Good luck for you

Erry, I think even though your speaking is below 25, but since you are working in English circumstances, you are considered fluent in English. So, you should feel glad then. Is there any SIPA admitted in this thread required to enroll the summer course?
-
Hi Beekline, I work as civil servant since 2009. Graduated from a university in Indonesia with a Rural Development Internship, where I was placed in a post-earthquake area. I elaborated these experience on my Personal Statement. Hope it give you another point of view. Good luck for you.

Terima kasih. Yes, it is stated on the decision letter. You might not need to enroll because your iBT score has met their requirement. Mine is less than 110, while I read on the admission page, the requirement was only 100. But I am going to enjoy the program anyway

Hi wanderingwonderer, Salam kenal. God willing, I'm going to MPA DP as well. Glad to hear that there will be an Indonesian (even though you are living abroad) in the program. Btw, are you asked to enroll in the summer English program?
-
Got admitted in MPA DP, but I need to enroll in the summer English course on July 23rd to Aug 17. This course also requires additional cost. Anyone is admitted with the same requirement?
-
Congrats erry3779! Selamat! Btw, if I may ask, which SIPA's program are you in?
-
I haven't seen either. The MPA-DP deadline was 15 days after the MPA/MIA, we might still have to wait few days ahead. *keep fingers crossed*

Got a decision email from SUNY Albany, stated: Unfortunately, it was not among those that were selected by the admissions committee from the group of very competitive applicants. I hope there will be better news tomorrow.

HELP! Georgetown, NYU, or Columbia

Congrats! I think it would be better for you to make a priority list on your consideration: the program, faculty, internship opportuniy, or school's brand? Then, you can rank those universities and pick the best one. If I were you, I might take ESP since this program seems specific enough on the environmental issues and you might have chances to meet professors or professionals on environmental policy. Just a thought. Good luck. -
Is MPA in Development Practice also included? Thank you

I received an email asking/conforming my postal mail address. On an attached letter to the email, it is stated that I am accepted to Maryland School of Public Policy but they are not able to provide financial support. Anyone received a similar email?
