  1. You might try searching the results page. I wouldn't lose hope - you have a pretty high GPA and test scores. Any research lab experience? Are you doing any research in your current position?
  2. Thanks Bren, Tanner, and Swkmjjj! I am still holding out to hear back from the rest of the schools I applied to (10 more), but I do like the sound of the direction that they intend on taking the program. To answer your question swkmjjj, after following up with a few schools last year I was told that my GREV score was what was really holding me back. After retaking the GRE, my verbal score stayed the same but my quant score went up. Honestly, I think a lot of it just depends on the program and in some cases just the professors within that school. I know at Wayne State you have to have a minimum of 5 faculty votes to receive an offer. Some of the faculty will look at the GRE first and others will look at the entire application. Personally, I don't think the GRE tells the whole story of my ability to succeed at the doctoral level but oh well.
  3. Interviewed/received an offer from Roosevelt today
  4. They only offer spots to as many students as they're able to fund. The last few years that has only been three and they continued that trend this year. Ergo, they essentially do not have a waitlist at this point because three people have accepted. Anyone that is still waiting to hear back from DePaul can consider themselves a bust (myself included).
  5. FYI: DePaul sent out offers yesterday.
  6. Well, Central Florida just sent out their rejections...
  7. Who were your POIs for Maryland, Qwerty?
  8. Hi all, A little birdie has told me that MSU has extended offers to 7! people! Fingers crossed for you all.
  9. Good luck with those! I know many of the faculty at MSU - if you have any questions. I'm having the same issue as you with letters. One of my profs is already 10 days late and I've reminded him 4 times since it was due. REALLY freaking out on those two.
  10. I would say you have a great shot at most of those schools based on GPA and GRE alone. Before the GRE switched over, many Ph.D. programs were looking for a minimum of 1200 - you have ~1350. Also, as I understand it, most schools just use the GRE as a filter, as it is often a better measure than GPA. If there are three applicants that have 4.0's, one from Harvard, one from a run of the mill school, and one from an unknown school, it's hard to weigh those GPAs. The fact that you have research experience and conducted your own study is a major bonus. Do you have any publications or presentation experience? All in all, I would say you would make a pretty good candidate.
  11. So...this will be my second time applying. My GRE scores weren't great last year, but I got them up and am reapplying this year. Background: Graduated from Michigan State, 2012 Research Assistant, MSU I/O Department RA for Dr. Ann Marie Ryan (3 years) Conducted 3 studies of my own APS presentation (2012) SIOP presentation (2013) Manuscript in preparation Currently working in R&D, Denison Consulting Manuscript submitted (R&R), Sex Roles Two manuscripts in preparation Research Assistant, Wayne State I/O Department RA for Dr. Alyssa McGonagle Manuscript in preparation RA for Dr. Lisa Marchiondo Ph.D. Programs I am applying to (no particular order/this may change): Wayne State Akron George Mason DePaul Central Michigan Wright State Maryland Georgia Roosevelt Colorado State Old Dominion Florida Tech Central Florida Master's Programs I am applying to: Wayne State Akron George Mason Good luck everyone!
  12. For those of you still waiting on Virgina Tech and DePaul... I just called and VT will be sending out emails by the end of next week and DePaul within two weeks. Good Luck!
  13. Schools applied to (All Ph.D.): George Mason (Rejected) Wayne State (Rejected) UCONN Akron DePaul ODU Virginia Tech USF Purdue Colorado State Portland State IIT
  14. There are quite a few things grad schools consider when selecting which students they want to come into their program. A big part of answering your question is contingent upon what level you are applying to, master's or Ph.D. If you are applying to doctoral programs, most of the top level programs are looking for research experience as of of the top qualifiers. They are also looking for above average GPAs and GRE scores, writing experience, and strong letters of recommendation, amongst other things. Many times, these programs are looking for independent research projects accompanied by a manuscript or conference presentation. I would say that at least having some research experience, even though not I/O related, is better than nothing, but top tier programs are probably looking for more academic research experience.
  15. I will for sure! Do you think it's too late in the game to shoot Dr. Dickson an email asking him when they will be sending out acceptances and just get the conversation flowing - sounds like they may have already made up their minds?
  16. Yep! I have known Alex since 5th grade and we were in the same research lab at MSU.
  17. Oh alright, one of my friends was in the I/O program at WSU, but decided that he wanted to do HR instead so is transferring to the master's program at MSU. I work at a consulting firm in Ann Arbor right now and both our president and director of R&D have Ph.D.s in I/O from WSU.
  18. Professor of interest. Really hoping I get in to Wayne State!
  19. Sounds like my entire undergraduate research career haha. You probably know most of these people, but someone asked me about this the other day and I gave them this list of some of the big names in stigma/discrimination: Ann Marie Ryan, Erving Goffman, Mikki Hebl, Alice Eagly, Madeliene Heilman, Rebecca Meisenbach, and Eden King (to name a few)
  20. One of my best friends is in the I/O program at DePaul and Alice is her chair. What exactly are your research interests? That would be something else to find out from everyone, research interests. Mine are leadership, culture, and motivation.
  21. Dr. Ryan is one of the most amazing people you will ever meet. I am in the process of writing a manuscript with her on some research we did on stigma management in the workplace. For my personal statements, I took the approach of naming 2 professors at each school that I would like to work with (First person would be my POI for each school)... George Mason: Dr. Stephen Zaccaro and Dr. Eden King DePaul: Dr. Annette Towler and Dr. Alice Stuhlmacher Wayne State: Dr. Marcus Dickson and Dr. Boris Baltes Portland State: Dr. Donald Truxillo and Dr. Liu-Qin Yang How about you?
  22. I'm not sure. I think I'll just delete my post and everyone can just post here. P.S., who was your POI at MSU? I wouldn't be too worried about not getting in. It looks like you have a pretty good background so I'm sure you'll get in somewhere. Were your research projects in an I/O lab or for some other discipline?
