  1. That's very unfair. I'm curious WHO they recruited. Is there a preference for certain academic backgrounds? Demographics?
  2. Hey speechpath15, I would contact both the department and the graduate school to cover all tracks. In some schools, the graduate admissions calculates GPAs and then they pass it to the department. Sometimes, it's the department who receives everything and operates separately from the graduate school with exception to sending who they nominated so the graduate school can put the applicant in the system.
  3. Can you please share the name of the school, Arcanelady?
  4. The cohort is highly diverse. I met an alumni and I was told the program is a proponent of academic, cultural and linguistic diversity and this trickles all the way to their PhD programs. They prefer to recruit those coming from business, theater to expose students to various ways of approaching problems. There are additional credits you can earn as part of an optional clinical placement abroad for clefts and feeding due to their affiliation with Operation Smile. They sent students to Bolivia. I think they have added more countries (might have to double check). If you want a global health preparation in SLP or if you plan to pursue a PhD after, Columbia's a great place to attend. The downside I learned is it's very expensive unlike the CUNYs.
  5. The school owns NY-Presbyterian Hospital and 2 affiliated med schools so you should be okay. Also, no matter where you go, ASHA requires all students to complete a medical externship. Are you interested in medical cases too?
  6. Do not apply to Syracuse University. They said they look at the overall application, but they still have a GPA cut-off.
  7. I want to add that it's important to be considerate for international students who are waitlisted and are at the top of the tier who are waiting to be offered an admission and need their visas to be processed. It takes time.
  8. Incredible! My cousin works there and it's so amazing. Great medical affiliations too I hope it goes well!
  9. Thank you sab236. I still have others. I hope you get into your schools!!!
  10. I got rejected from Syracuse this morning. My dream research school.
  11. If I recall, you would break down the words into the smallest units: l' = determiner infirm- = root for "nurse" -eire = female nominal marker jug = root for "judge/declare" -er = infnitive marker -a = third person future indicative tense marker ce = demonstrative root "this" -tte = female demonstrative marker enfant = root for child malade = root for sick/ill Hopefully someone can confirm. It's been a while since I did this.
  12. Hey Jaime, cosmic, I share your sentiments. I come from an unrelated major, and also took a break to assess my life. I even explored other careers (social work, clergy, OT, special ed) and was so desperate I had a complete psychoeducational assessment, just to see what else I can do. I knew SLP was what I wanted to do. It has taken me 1 year to raise my GPA due to circumstances that happened. I'm at the cusp of a 3.0 overall right now, but my CSD GPA is 4.0. I'm taking a graduate course as well and have a 4.0 in that. I'm regretting that I didn't take an extra course to bump it higher. I addressed my GPA in my SOPs. I pray to God the adcoms will show compassion and understanding. Keep the faith and hope y'all fulfill your dreams.
  13. This is the perfect time to go on a road trip Wishing you lots of blessings and keep the faith!
  14. I know it's frustrating, but try to keep doing your routines, take care of your health and spend time with your loved ones/circle. The decisions come when you least expect them. That happened to me
  15. Do you have programs that interview applicants? You could start practising on questions to keep your momentum.
  16. speechies, are you able to apply in the US? More opportunities. Schools near the border tend to accept lots of us. I believe if you work for an agency (funded by CCAC for example), you can do home health. I used to work as a behavior therapist for a school-aged child with autism and the OT would come in every 2 weeks to run goals. It was a riot to watch her. It's very physically demanding when working with kids and need a lot of spontaneity. It looked exciting.
  17. Hey guys, how do you handle the question if they ask "Where else are you applying?"
  18. I met Gerard Butler, Madonna, Carrie Fisher
  19. Although I do agree that it's nowhere yet at the level of efficiency as AMCAS or the National Clearinghouse, they are very responsive and processed materials very quickly if you submit your docs early. Mine took 1.5 weeks for GPA to be verified and mailed to the department. Make sure you submit your feedback to csdcasinfo@csdcas.org with ATTN: Manager/Feedback on the subject.
  20. The professor who interviewed me forgot about our meeting. It's very distressing.
  21. I am so sorry Arcanelady. The right school will find you! Don't lose hope and pray
